I like Eddie Tullock. Do you have any other video of him or just that one with the top change?

The word, “influencers” is important here, and though a lot of great card guys inspire and impress, influence is something altogether different as to a motivating factor. To be honest, it would be difficult as to the facts to leave Harry Lorayne off of any such lists, not with all he has brought to the table, the overall body of work is just too verifiably vast. It would be interesting to know who he believes are the greatest influencers as to card magic and why, besides himself of course. 😁 Also, who are the very best card men and why.
For me, on a slightly different note here, an old friend is one of the very best guys I’ve ever seen with a deck of cards. For him, card tricks were child’s play, and he actually can do any of them as good as anyone but surprisingly chose not to after a while. Instead, he went a different route and became a well-known gambler and card shark, known & respected by magicians & gamblers alike. Simply amazing what he can do right in front of you with a deck of cards, real world stuff where every move is critical, maybe even life or death at times. Card tricks were things he cut his teeth on growing up and was an absolute creative wiz at them, with an encyclopedic knowledge and ability that was just crazy. We grew up together but in his 2nd act out in the world, people just started calling him, Doc.

I agree that the word "influencer" is important. Influencer is a modern term, but could be applied to past times as well. I believe each individual will have his / her personal influences, but that is different than an influencer, who can influence groups, large or small. For instance, David Blaine is an influencer. He changed the way magic on TV is presented. Chris Ramsay and others started the whole social media magic as category. Dai Vernon was an influencer, not because of his skill, but because he ushered in the wave of naturalism in magic, and single handedly moved the epicenter of magic from New York to Los Angeles in his time.
I think a discussion of current influencers (not personal influences, heroes, etc) and whether you like them or not could be interesting. |
