Attaching threaded flange a to a suite case?
What is the best way to attached a flange to the bottom of a suitcase? I want to be able to screw my suitcase on the a Eureka table base. Do I really need to put a board on the inside of the suitcase? THANKS! |

It depends on what your suitcase is made of. If its an ATA flight case theres no need, but if its a thin plastic you do unless you only want to use it a few times. Either way it would be best to thru bolt rather than use screws. You could also use a piece of GRP (glass reinforced plastic) available in varying thicknesses. If the issue is that you don't have a way to cut a piece of plywood, let me know and I'll cut one for you.

Here's a suggestion: Liquid Nails. It comes in a variety of strengths. Although once the flange is on, it may be very difficult to remove.

Glue of any type will eventually give way. Usually in the middle of a show. Cut a 5/8" inch piece of plywood and put it on the inside of the suitcase. Cut a hole slightly larger than the pole that attaches to the flange. Bolt the flange to the inside of your case and attach the post that way. Your case will still sit flat and be easier to transport.

Thank you all! Love the idea of putting the flange on the inside!

Mak Magic Eureka table base now comes with a flat sheet metal flange instead of the pipe flange they use to supply. This new flange is perfect to put in a briefcase. I have looked at home improvement stores and have not found anything like the new Mak Magic flange. Oh, and yes, the table base screws up into the center of the flange.
