If you get paid by 1099 and work at the same place almost every week during the year. Can you qualify for unemployment? Thanks

Do you have business interruption insurance?

It doesn’t appear that business interruption insurance would cover this type of situation.

It depends on your policy, and it depends on how this is worded. But yea it can. Trust me.

Short answer is NO most self employed cannot draw unemployment. This is because they have not paid unemployment insurance tax.

But as a business owner, you may qualify for unemployment insurance benefits IF you have paid yourself a salary and Social Security, Medicare and UNEMPLOYMENT TAX were withheld from your check. You have to be paid into the system to draw from it. Rules as well as amounts differ from State to State, so be sure to check within your own State by contacting the unemployment office.

It’s not clear yet but it sounds to me like the government is going to help with loss income for the self employed. This is to be more than just loans.

Tom great point. The answers for this might not be the traditional answers once it is all said and done.

What you said about withholding is also true. Just more reasons to actually run a business and not just a hobby.

Also keep track of lost income as federally there may be something you can do with that. Keep track of refunds and anything you can keep track of. By the time it is all said and done it might all help.

Wait times for the right information might be quite long.

The "gig economy" is included. They are targeting Uber drivers but we just may sneak in.

It certainly sounds like the independent contractors may be included.

This reads that way:

“This bill creates a new program, called Pandemic Unemployment Assistance, that extends benefits to gig workers, contractors and others who wouldn't otherwise qualify for unemployment compensation but cannot work due to the coronavirus emergency. You'll get the $600 per week, plus half the average unemployment benefit in your state.”
