You can always load another ball of a different color under the gaffed lid, the same way you would do a final load for the Cups & Balls. (I use a cat's eye marble).
Then it's an easy matter to make the ball reappear and change color. At that point, many specs who think they're in the know say "Hmmm, I guess this isn't the same as the trick vase I have." While they are looking at the color change, you can palm off the gaff and then offer everything for examination. SETH

You're prejudiced. My preference is the Skallo/Ginner Routines.

How ironic. My friend, whom I'm kinda mentoring because I have much more performance experience than he does, just bought a bunch of stuff off penguin. He LOVES doing childrens magic, so he bought the appearing cane, the kids magic kit, and a few other things. He asked me to fiddle with some of some of the stuff to make some routines for him. I couldn't stop myself from playing with the Ball & Vase. In 5 minutes, I had one down. I just added to it after reading one of the above posts. I'll explain my routine, and could someone tell me if it's already a published routine:
*The ball, vase, and vase lid are on the table for examination. *The ball is placed into the vase, and the lid is placed on. *After waving a magic wand, the lid is slowly removed to show that the ball has vanished. *The magician, or the spectator can reach into the magicians pocket to find the ball. *The ball is taken in the left hand while the spectator closes the lid. *The wand is waved over the left hand and the ball has vanished. *The vase is opened to show that the ball has reappeared. *The lid is closed again with the ball inside, and the entire vase is taken into the right hand. *The magician points out the skinny part of the vase, and explains that its the stem that does the magic. *The wand is waved over the vase in the right hand, and the ball visually falls out from under the base and the lid is opened to show that the ball has vanished. *The vase is closed again and the ball is taken in the left hand. *The magician visually pushes the base of the vase on top of the ball and the ball vanishes. *The lid is again opened to show that the ball is back. *The ball is dumped out onto the table, the magicians hands, or the spectators hands, and the vase and lid is placed on the table for complete examination. I'm going to try to work in a color change with a marble as the kicker. Or maybe a 6 inch red silk. Okay, enough typing for me... ~Jonton

Who he stole it from? Sorry, I couldn't help myself. Poor Ed was always being accused of purloining others work.

Hi all!
I have three that were hand-made in India. Don't get me wrong, I'm not a big fan of manufacturers who make cheap knock-offs, but I picked the best looking two from the lot, and also found the shop had a Ball To Silk Vase made by the same manufacturer. I must admit...I've never used them to show, as I always felt that everyone knew the secret due to the trick being in every kid's magic set. So, they've been used as decorative ornaments for years. They are beautifully turned in wood, and laquered...with a brick-red ball and gaff. The Silk Vase is made similarly, and comes with a regular ball, a matching hollow ball, and a hollow stemmed vase, all turned beautifully in wood, along with two matching brick-red silks. If a routine was available for these, and I could do it where I could fool people, I'd happily start using it. They are quite large, the ball being an inch and 3/4 in diameter, like the German Multiplying Billiard Balls. Not as easy to conceal as the toy versions. Glad I bought these..they were inexpensive ($20 each), but I don't see these available any more...they were well within my budget. I could never have afforded the Viking. Doug |
