Can anyone clue me in to an easier to find version of this? Anything more modern that's inexpensive?
Was just reading Prism and by the time it was written, the Edmund Scientific Company didn't have these anymore. They were $2 for a bunch of them a few decades ago from what the book says. All I can find now is one listing that's similar for like $100. |

Curious how they operate in real life. Most people I’ve heard from say the modern day Bimetal discs do not have the same snap as they used to.
Things are about to change........ LIGHTS!!!

I'm curious as well. I can let you know how this one is but to be honest, I have nothing to compare it to. I never had one of the originals.

I've ordered a few. I'll leave an update when they arrive.
Also I'll mention, the company listed is out of Singapore. I live in the States and could not get past the checkout but their team was happy to help after I emailed them directly. They were able to square away my order. Heads up if anyone tries to order these and lives in the U.S. |

The ones that I ordered a few weeks back were sadly very poor. You need to be sure thar what you are ordering will work within regular room temperature ranges. The ones I bought needed very hot water to set and snapped/jumped far too fast.

I received 2 of them and have tested them indoor and outdoor and they are working quite well. I get about a foot of air.
At first it wasn't working too well but it was user error. I had it upside down. Unlike the rubber ones I had as a kid, it's less of a visible bend on these. It appears flat at all times visually. When I first got it, it took about 45 seconds to pop. Now it's only taking about 5 seconds. Not sure if the temp is different or if it's just broken in. I picked up a second one to compare it to. I'm going to keep messing around with it. |
