I have a 2 Coin Unique sets I haven't used for a few years so I got them out again and started playing with them and on the one set the quarter falls right out of the half dollar. It doesn't even stay in. It's like the magnetic part lost all its strength. The other set works good. Can this happen over time that the magnetic part loses it's strength and is there a way to make the magnetic part strong again?

I had one where the flat steel shim fell out of the shell coin.
If you don't see a flat steel shim in the center of the shell, then it fell out. They use some sort of glue to hold it in, and I have found that the shim will fall out on some models (depending on how well they are made). Also check the insert coin. Is there a steel shim attached to it? Did the magnet in the insert pull the shim out and it stayed with the insert? Take a loose magnet to the shell. If the shell doesn't stick to the magnet, then the shim fell out at some point. Magnet rarely lose their strength. |

I would second that.Shim can come loose. Small drop of superglue will hold it if you find it.

Al, no the shim didn't fall out. The shim and the magnet are as they should be.

Heat can drain the power of a neodymium magnet.

Poof-Daddy,
Is there any way to reverse it and put the power back? |

I think there is a process that a magnet manufacturer can do but not all even offer it.

This site has some good advice on remagnetizing magnets.

Thanks for the site Doug, I'll give it a shot and see if it works. It doesn't say how long it takes so I'm not sure if it's hours or days.

It didn't work.

Perhaps you may have a problem similar to some split coins I have. It seems that when the neo magnets in coins are very thin (@ .4 mm thick or less), they are more likely to lose their magnetic strength.
