This is one of the best ideas that I learned. Keeping a mailing list of fans...
When I was doing close up magic in restaurants in Chicago I would have a mailing list of fans. I would mail a newsletter about 4 times a year and in each issue I would tell them how to do a simple trick with stuff that they could do around the house. Also jokes and I would run a contest from time to time and give restaurant script or free dinners to the winners of the contests. This mailing list grew and I found that I would get shows from it because it had my advertising in it. I included news stories about magicians that I met. And shows that I did. And when I would get let go from a restaurant I would mail to the list a post card telling them that I had moved to another restaurant. I have also found that a mailing list of fans helps get you work in more restaurants. If you keep an active list this is cash to any restaurant owner. You bringing in business for them. I have used this idea with my hypnosis show from time to time but I am never in one place long enough to really reap the rewards of having an active list for my hypnotic show. But if I book a night club to do hypnotism on a regular basis I feel that it would be stronger and work as well as it did in the restaurants... I was wondering if there are any magicians that use fan lists of customers? As I do and how well they work.
