Will To Read - Steve Dela
$35.00 https://murphysmagic.com/product.aspx?id=58172 The Hype: Have the ability to predict the actions your spectator is about to take! Steve Dela has created a powerful piece of mentalism that fits neatly into your wallet. Will to Read contains two powerful "mind reading" effects. Combine them together and you can produce a full "hard hitting" routine. Now add your BIP Book and you have an entire act! Three objects (pen, card and coin) are placed on a table. Your spectator places one in their pocket, keeps hold of another and passes one to you. Even though every decision is super fair, you proceed to reveal, that, the exact location of each object has been previously predicted ahead of time within the "torn out page" of a book. If that wasn't enough, you can then ask your spectator to simply think of ANY word from either side of the page. Then, with NO questions asked, you can start to reveal it letter by letter. Once they confirm the 4th letter in a row, you proceed to tell them the entire word! - The torn out page can be in full view the entire time - No switches necessary - Spectator can hold the prediction - Every choice is super fair - Always 100% correct - No flaps, just one piece of paper - No moving parts, nothing to break - Fits neatly into your everyday wallet - Everything is included to perform straight away - BONUS... includes "All About Eve" (1 page book test) - BONUS... BIP Book reveals also built in! Comes complete with: - Custom designed and printed gimmicks - Full "in depth" training DVD, complete with routines, handlings and variations by Steve Dela and Peter Nardi My Take: Two tricks for the price of one. How could it get any better? It all fits neatly into your wallet and is a real mindbender. The first half of the trick utilizes the principle used in Free Will by Deddy Corbuzier. I was first introduced to it by Paul Richards who, at the time, owned Elmwood Magic. I really doubt if Paul realized that this little trick was to develop a life of its own and be used as a basis for so many mentalism effects. The second effect is a book test pretty well based on ideas advanced in MOAB (Mother of All Book Test). MOAB is one of my favorite all time tricks, easy to do, your volunteer does all of the handling for you (you don't even have to touch the book), and it is absolutely devastating. The down sides are the price (massive), you have to carry a good sized book around with you and you have to memorize a list of words. Steve has done away with some of these considerations. At $35.00, it beats MOAB ($299.00) and puts it within the budgets of most of you. A real plus is the book is done away with and condensed to a single piece of paper that you can carry in your wallet. You will still have a list of words to contend with. The two effects can be done separately or, as Peter Nardi does in the instructional DVD, as a longer routine. The way Peter does it adds a bit of time misdirection which is very effective. There are three different pages which you receive. (You also get two of each). You are taught two versions. The first requires only one of the sheets. I would say it won't stand up to serious examination but if your volunteer takes a quick look she will see nothing. In the second, the volunteer can look all day as there is nothing to find. You are given a gimmicked envelope allowing you to switch pages invisibly. It is also suggested that you could use a Z-fold wallet which is my preferred method. The wallet also allows you to carry the prediction in your pocket. If you do only the object prediction, it could not be easier. This is an effect that can be done as soon as you finish watching the DVD (although you already know it is not a good idea to perform something without sufficient rehearsal). If you decide to add the book test (I love book tests!) then you will have to deal with a list of words. If you don't want to memorize it, you are given a crib card that fits nicely in your case with your business cards. I would however suggest that you take the time to memorize this list so the card case is not a necessity. There are only 19 words so it won't be tough, (I still have my MOAB list memorized!) Besides the huge difference in cost, I find the one page book test to have one up on the more pricy item. If someone wants to examine MOAB, they will find words repeated. On this one page book test, your volunteer can pick a word form either side and have no suspicions as each key word is only on one side of the sheet and is not duplicated. It you do the two page test, there is no way anything will ever be suspected. You are given a method to age the sheets. I feel this makes it look a lot more legitimate. You are also given a link to register your product, view some videos with more tips and methods and be informed of any new stuff that comes up on the effect. On one of the videos here that I really like. Iain Bailey gives his version where you gimmick your business card to achieve the same three object prediction. I love little things that you can always carry with you. Especially if it is such a strong effect as this. Very definitely recommended. |

Grets review, thanks
I agree, this is an awesome effect (Peter's presentation) that's self contained, logical, entertaining and fooling. Not to mention easy! |

I like it as well and there us a nice tie in to the effect "B.I.P. Book 2.0" where they can be used together. As far as the page you carry, I simply went with the "jagged tear" method and wrote "Dr. Powell - 10:15 Tuesday" as if I needed to jot down an appointment change and didn't have a tablet handy. It NEVER has been questioned why I have one page from a book in my wallet because of that. It just looks like I have an appointment coming up soon.
Both are great effects apart or together. I am not a mentalist and do not do hardly any mentalism themed effects but these two still fit my style (I also added "Leo's Coin" recently to the mix). Great review.

Poof-Daddy, that is an incredibly simple and neat idea with an appointment scrawled onto the page.

Just a bump to this thread. Does anyone know of a source to purchase this effect? I know there's a "Will to Read Light", but can't find any reviews.

I like to add another layer of impossibility to this by placing the prediction in a coin envelope which is then removed from one of three larger envelopes as played out in the effect, A Sucker is Born Every Minute.

Day late and dollar short on this effect. Love it. However, twice when I've performed it the spectator has basically guessed the method by saying something along the lines of "there's probably another prediction on this page."
Has anyone else experienced that and looking for suggestions to alleviate that or response to it. Blessings everyone. |
