Starting at 10:22 Peter Turner performs a seemingly impossible version of the Open Prediction effect: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=mw0Np8GJ7oM&t=622s
It had to be a dual reality/stooging type technique I thought but Peter Turner (the channel on which this video was posted belongs to him it seems) said in reply to some of the YouTube comments the following (which seems to rule out that this uses dual reality/stooges): 1. nothing is edited out. Just not a clean cut from one camera to the other that's all - quick edit for YouTube. The method is staring you in the face in that video . Just for anyone wondering how. 2. ok - you can eliminate as many methods as you like before you hit on the method. Said what I have to say on the subject. No video is missing, no instructions edited out. It fits as closely to the original variations as I can possibly stick to. The method is SO easy, I’d be surprised if this hasn’t been done it’s so simple. No counting to numbers, no dual reality, no pre-show, no prior setup and no editing anything out. Certainly very interesting. What do you guys think about the effect? Word had it that mentalist Thomas Baxter came up with a seemingly impossible version of Open Prediction himself (which he called A Dianoetic Rage) that several magicians/mentalists on here attested to seeing. Might it be that Peter hit upon the same method? |

As stated there, my bet is s***ge + m****d deck.
What would a real mindreader do?

My bet is he's doing something like Fraser Market's Pseudo Berglas. It's not stooging, but there is pre show work. It's a decent effect, but the pre show is a pain.

How can it be any sort of pre-show work??? He doesn't ask him to name a card or anything of that sort. He is just dealing from a shuffled deck.

How about something like the method used by David Blaine when he "closed a deal for my first prime-time major network TV special"? Mysterious Stanger, pages 52-53. I am NOT saying this is what Turner did, just addressing the good question about what pre-show might be able to do when dealing from a shuffled deck. -Mirak |

The spectator (not the magician) gave the cards a pretty good shuffle.
The only audience is the spectator and the camera. If the spectator is a stooge, and the whole thing is phony to fool people watching the video, that seems really pointless to me. But if he IS a stooge, there is no need for pre show work. |

I don't want to get into it any more, look it up if you're curious, but it is one answer (not necessarily THE answer) to your question about how it could have been pre-show work. Again, I can't get into any more specifics but I provided a source for the curious. Your comment above gives two versions of it being a stooge with a "But if he IS a stooge" in between, so I'm afraid your point is lost on me so my apologies if my response seems nonsensical. |
