Does anyone perform the elusive pass?
Has anyone ever seen it explained on video? I've been working at getting four half dollars into lower downs/edge palm from the staring position as it's crucial to be able to do that before I work on the vanish part. But it'd be helpful to see someone that has mastered it. It seems like a very pretty vanish, as most of Down's stuff surely was, and still is in the correct hands. Ok, if nobody does the Elusive pass... How do you guys prefer vanishing a stack or multiple coins at once? I know Downs had a click pass for such situations, and Bobo's covers at least two other methods I just think that if I could do the Elusive pass in a completely smooth manner that it would be a beautiful piece of manipulation. -Brad

Are you referring to the move that puts the coins between the second and third fingers as a display position, then brings the hands togher...like a billiards sleight?
For some reason I usually associate the word 'Elusive' with the T. J. Crawford move, also in Art of Magic and Bobo's

Yes, the stack goes between extended 2nd and 3rd fingers and ends up in edge grip/lower downs palm after the action of taking them with the opposite hand. The description and photos are also in Downs book

Okay Bradley, we are looking at what amounts to a billiards move. The folks over in billiards land should be able to help about the positioning and timing.
I went for the 'grip them first' approach for small groups of coins using a TINY coin clip. For a larger group, say ten coins... I would investigate other methods. For performance, one needs to be sure of the mechanics. In this case, I recommend you look into the 'other' ways suggested in that book for managing the vanish of many coins at a time. Something about the risk of dropping ten loose coins makes me uncomfortable.

I like Bobo's vanish for multiple coins because of its beautiful simplicity. It may not be the fanciest thing on earth but if you can proceed in a clever way after doing the vanish it's as good as any other.
