Wow, what a good trick this is!
Unfortunately, in the At The Table lecture with Woody and Greg Wilson there is NO DESCRiPTION of how to get into the set up from new deck order. Even more unfortunately, in Woody's book, "A Book In English" , p172, the description is completely unintelligible if not flat-out wrong. "Pass the QH to your right hand, then spread the deck on top of it. When you get to the 7H take it, with all of the cards on top of it, and pass it to the right hand, over the QH. DO not change their order." Like I say, makes no sense at all! Help! |

That should do it:
Take the QH into your right hand, then spread the deck on top of it. When you get to the 7S, transfer it, with all of the cards above it, to the right hand, on top of the QH. Do not change their order. The 7H is on top of your left-hand packet. Continue spreading the cards, until you get to the 2H. Transfer the entire group (2H included) to your right hand, on top of the previous cards. The KS will be the top card of the left-hand's pile. Drop the left-hand packet on top of the right-hand cards. The deck is now ready to perform the routine. |

THank you Claudio. With the deck and the book in hand, I had reached exactly that conclusion, after some time.
The description in the book is completely, entirely wrong! Great trick though: no wonder no one's doing it! |

My pleasure, Ross.
How do you make sure that the spectator's shuffle is "as it should be"? |

I haven't performed it, so I don't know! In the UK riffle-shufflers are usually fairly experienced card-players and may well want to cut the deck after the shuffle. That may be a problem,

The riffle shuffle and its requirement is the only chink in the armour of this trick, I think.
I have not yet performed this effect either, but I was thinking of having the spectator perform a Rosetta Shuffle. In essence both packets are "twisted" by the performer, then slightly engaged so that the two Qs stay within the trick's parameter. The spectator can finish off the shuffle by fully meshing both packets. The visual chaos is so effective that nobody ever questions this type of shuffle when I perform it, i.e. everybody knows that the cards are hopelessly mixed. To add to the visual chaos, it's effective to spread the recombined deck while still in a "twisted" state. |

I've never performed it either, but to be perfectly honest, I was never particularly intrigued after reading it.
A full deck set up for an effect where just a few two of the kind and a winning hand which is nothing really spectacular (although predicted). Dunno... I'd rather use a full deck set up with something much better than this and that not gets "destroyed" after the trick. So many things you can do with a mem-deck or Si-Stebbins .. Mark |

I think that if you present this strictly as a poker effect, it’s bound to be disappointing as indeed the dealt hands are not that impressive.
But if you present it as a piece of mentalism (or mental magic), then the relatively poor hands make it more believable. True, the effect requires a full deck set-up, but from a new deck order, it takes me a bit more than 30 seconds for the setup and I think that with a bit of creativity it can be done in front of an audience. Whether it’s worth it, I am not sure either until I’ve tried it in front of an audience and this is still a few weeks away as I am still ironing some technical and presentational points and also because of the Covid restrictions in my corner of the wood. But I believe that if the audience buys into the premises, then it can potentially be an impactful effect. |
