We've been quite busy with inquiries and bookings coming in pretty steadily over the past few weeks. How are your booking coming? Have you noticed an increase recently as more and more relaxed restrictions are being lifted?
For me personally and my agencies, some of May and June still canceled (several months ago), but others are also restarting in June, July, and August are really starting to come on consistently, mostly festivals and outdoor events. I hope everyone is seeing an increase in bookings and that many of the postponed bookings are being rescheduled. How's your business been the last few weeks? Anyone launching something new? |

Starting to pick up - mostly the same time frames. My wife is getting quite a few inquiries coming in, I'm mostly working stuff that was recurring before lock downs started.

I'm doing a stage performance for 400 people outdoors in two weeks... but the vast majority of my inquiries have been for smaller local events. Typically with 10-50 guests max.
I think the smaller private stuff will come back first, followed by the non-profits, local company events, and (lastly) national conventions. What do you think? Personally, I'm fully vaccinated and READY TO GO!!! |

Answer = yes!
A few festival shows starting up this month! Live shows! Imagine that! Mindpro (and others) are you seeing any trends with budgets? The people contacting me (all repeats so far) have all brought lower budgets this year since event attendance is still going to be low because of attendance caps with social distancing. Not sure if that’s just in my region, or pretty normal across the country. |

It's picking up quite a lot, my summer may be almost as good as usual, maybe about the same, hard to say. It's a combo of the weather being better, feeling safer to do outside events, and lots of people being vaccinated.

Now, again, we do not book or work on price, so that has never really ever been an issue for us. I also have some consulting clients and students who, as we've discussed in our sessions, have used this as a great opportunity to raise their prices and they have with no problems at all as well as we've discussed as recently as this week. I believe this year's events will be very well attended, especially summer events, as interest and presales are strong. I don't, believe social distancing will be much of a factor through the summer, however, I predict and return spike next fall/winter as so many refuse to get vaccinated. I've now talked to three people, one from the Pfizer team, who all are saying similar things. I just hope it doesn't affect what right now has the makings of a strong holiday season and fourth quarter. |

Here in British Columbia, Canada, we are only allowed gatherings of up to 10 people, outside, and they have to be from the same consistent group of friends. This is in effect until late May.
I did a child's birthday show this past weekend under these conditions. 6 kids and 4 adults in a backyard. Also keep in mind that Canada is slower in rolling out our vaccines (based on supply). I get my first shot within the next week, and I'm in my 50s. Ages 18-59 in the general population will have the opportunity their first shot during May and June, in our province. Then it is supposed to be about 4 months before we get a second shot. If they run on their projected schedule, not everyone will have the opportunity for both shots until the end of October. So, it might be a while before any sort of large events in my area. My next show I have booked is for December. Obviously, I hope that will change, but I will be respectful of the government rules about sizes of gatherings, whether they can be indoors or out, etc. - Donald

My report is a mix or good news and bad news.
The good news is my weekend work is just about as strong as it has ever been. And to address the question of budgets, for some reason I’m seeing a sharp increase in customers buying my deluxe packages. They seem much more receptive to my add on suggestions of face painting, balloon twisting, favor bags, etc. making my weekends very profitable. My summer work has also come in very strong, not a normal summer, but very strong. The bad news is one of my most lucrative gigs, a twice a week summer long, 2-person, outdoor gig cancelled due to covid concerns. Also, my show for this Saturday cancelled due to a family member getting covid. A big question for me is school assemblies. They are the biggest percentage of my income and I really can’t see the 21/22 school assembly coming in. I hope I’m wrong, but I think the ‘abundance of caution’ stuff will prevail. The question of raising prices came up. I may be totally wrong on this but I’m very reluctant to raise prices at this time. I get it, everything cost more these days. But that’s why I don’t want to raise my prices. There are many people still hurting out there and almost feel like I’m price gouging them. An example: My wife and I will celebrate our 20th anniversary soon. We wanted to go to our favorite resort where we’ve been many times. We found that not only did they raise their rates drastically, many of their activities were also cancelled. They lost a good customer. So, IMHO keeping prices steady will maintain customer loyalty and is a wiser long-term strategy. There’s always tomorrow, and I am optimistic about tomorrow.

To give some different perspective
In Australia we have been open since before xmas with only a 2 week lockdown from the 20th Dec 2020. as things are opening up- my weekends are full of kids shows, enquiries are through the roof, so when things are opening back up- you will see a BOOM to be honest when the shows started again I was not match fit- 2 shows and I am worn out- so start eating healthy and get your fitness back, because the more open your country gets the more gigs are coming in. you'll need the stamina in order to do them all., Back to doing 4-6 shows a weekend and I do sleep well Sunday nights |

The last two weeks I got a lot of requests as well. Most of them are for smaller events (like birthday parties) and / or small outdoor events. This weekend is the first since over a year that I am fully booked. Feels very goood.
