Distros is a short term for power distribution.
It is the unit you use to tie in to the house power.

Say you need more than just a few 120 volts outlets and maybe even some 220V or (hopefully not) 208V. You will use heavy gauge cables to tie into the power box at the venue which then provide power to your box near the stage.

There are two basic types of power styles..single phase (220V) and three phase (208V). For most anything you will ever use, go with single phase.

You will have 220 volts going thru the lines to your distros box. On that will be outlets ranging from regular edisons to stage pin, to cam-loc, etc. This is where you will start to plug in dimmers, lights, equipment, etc.

I have no idea about your knowledeg of electricity, but basicallly there will be two hot legs on single phase....each leg will carry one phase of 120 volts.

Distros are not cheap when built by the best companies. Motion Lab is one. They can be built cheaper at home, but you will need an electrician to sign off on it. The cable can get very expensive as well. The longer the cable the bigger the gauge it must be.

Hope that helps.
