Repetition - Nathan Kranzo
$14.95 https://www.penguinmagic.com/p/15548 The Hype: When the Kranzilla attacks a classic you know there is going to be a twist. Counting cards and tossing them away only to have them return to your hand is a trick that's been around the block, but in Nathan Kranzo's hands it not only becomes engaging but gets a kicker ending your audience doesn't see coming. This is Nathan Kranzo's Repetition. Here's what happens: The magician shows the audience four blue-backed cards, cleanly wiggling the cards between their fingers. The magician puts one card in their pocket or hat to remain in view so they can show the audience the old three-card trick. Magically, a new card is produced at the magician’s fingertips. The card is tossed away so the magician can show the audience the old three-card trick. The card returns again and again until the magician gives up on trying to get rid of cards. In a twist ending the blue-backed cards are shown to have transformed into red cards. This trick uses a fantastic set of gimmicked cards that practically do all the work for you. In addition to receiving the gimmicked cards, Kranzo teaches you variations on the effect and how to easily make new gimmicks to fit new presentations. The gimmicks work cleanly so you can perform the effect both from stage and close up. Repetition is a trick you will find yourself performing again, and again, and again, and again. My Take: I had the pleasure of meeting and dining with Nathan at a convention on Cape Cod a long time ago. We have stayed in touch. His parents live near me so we get to grab a bite when he is in town. And yet, I can be totally objective in reviewing one of his products. I did get one once that I just was not thrilled with so I failed to give it a good review and Nathan took it in stride. Now, with the confession out of the way, on to Repetition. A buddy of mine is in one of Aaron Fisher's online group where Nathan recently did an online lecture where he taught Repetition. My buddy raved about it and told me that I needed to see this one. Nathan was kind enough to see that I got a download of the file. From looking at the ad, it seems that if you order it, you receive the treated cards. I had to make my own up but that was easy. Tommy Tucker's Six Card Repeat is obviously an inspiration for this effect though it uses only four cards. While not quite self-working, the trick is very easy to do. The cards do most of the work for you. Nathan loads the four cards into a deck then removes them in front of his audience. A little touch that adds a great deal of confidence that you are just using four ordinary cards, which, of course, you're not. Nathan's timing and facial expressions really help to sell the trick. A color change of the four cards adds a surprise to it. Of course, if you really want to see Nathan do a real color change, have him remove his hat! (If you have met him, you will know exactly what I am taking about). This is really a great trick to carry in your pocket. Easy to do. Great visuals and you will get a few laughs. Over the years, I have seen Nathan come up with quite a few clever effects and this is right at the top of the list. Penguin liked it so much they bought the rights to it and they do not do that for just any trick that comes across their desks. In case you haven't figured it out, I really enjoyed this trick and will be using it. It is always nice to have something in your pocket when you go out in public and this fits the bill quite nicely.
