Can anyone direct me to the reference of the following handling of Svengali? Thanks in advance.
- 26 long cards (all different) on the face, followed by 26 short cards (same value) (This allows the 2 sections to shuffle freely after being split. Faro these 2 in to make Svengali afterwards) LW |

Mark Lewis has forgotten more about Svengali Decks than most people on here (combined) will ever know.
Unfortunately, those 'keepers of our ethics' who run this place, foreover ban him as soon as he ever makes a re-appearance. Such a shame - as the guy is a true font of knowledge, advice and years of professional wisdom. Let's see just how long this post lasts!

If I understood the question correctly, Simon Lovell describes in Simon Says! a Jim Zachary handling where both groups are segregated which allows for very easy and deceiving overhand shuffling Jimbos Sneaky Shuffle Action.

Merc Man, the first thing I looked up was his book, The Long and the Short of It, published in 2001. You are right, he is one of the "go to" people for Svengali Decks. If he covers a similar procedure in the book, it isn't immediately obvious from the table of contents.
And you are right, too bad he cannot chime in on the subject. Or any subject.

You can overhand shuffle a Sven. Deck. Of course you can riffle as well, just has to be oriented right.
To me the key would be showing the random order of the deck. Not only shuffling, especially if you will have a card selected. I like some of Liam Montier's handlings of a similar deck--the mene tekel. Brilliant. He shows you how to fan them..... |
