Dear Café Members
I rarely post to this platform - but wanted to see if anyone can help with an effect that I saw a long time ago. (Spoiler: this is *not* Glorpy and not Bill Abbot's "The Thing") This is what I *think* I saw.... Performer has a handkerchief flat on the table. The palm-down hand was placed flat on the handkerchief and moved in a circular motion. Gradually, a spherical object appeared under the handkerchief. (Almost - but I'm pretty certain that it wasn't this... like a sphere made of memory foam was uncompressing under the circular action of the hand-down palm). The performer then 'hit' the 'object' with something hard (perhaps a spoon) and the object appeared solid. Then, if I remember correctly, the hand-down palm action was repeated, in a circular rubbing motion until the object disappeared and the handkerchief was shown empty. Does this ring any bells? Along with Michael Weber's 'Nail Matrix' (at Ron MacMillan's day years ago) which continues to hold a place in my mind as 'fooled me completely', I remember getting that 'magic' feeling from the effect I described above. Again - it is possible (in the same way I saw John Kennedy's floating cigarette at Blackpool as a kid - and mis-remembered completely what *actually* happened), that this was just a Glorpy and some excellent skills, and my mind is over-glorifying it. As I say, this is not 'The thing' - as someone suggested it might be - so I'm hoping the helpful souls on this forum will be able to at least give me the name of the effect / originator. Many thanks in advance for your help with this everyone, Derek |

You describe the "Solid Ghost". I believe the original version was developed and published by Ganson. An updated version is put out by Richard Osterlind (with full credit to Ganson) and a similar version was published and sold by Gene Anderson. I believe that Anderson taught you how to make one in his "Part Time Professional" lecture notes.
Osterlind's version can be found here: https://osterlindmysteries.com/store/ind......j0muri93 I don't have links for the other references.
The artist formally known as Mumblepeas!

I have used this to make a crumpled signed borrowed bill reappear after torching it (substituting a flash bill). Borrow, switch and torch the bill, do the solid ghost effect, then pick up the near corners of the handkerfchief, drop the bill and drop the cloth on top (as if the ghost had materialized). Then lift the cloth from the front to reveal the bill, open it up etc.
