Has anyone every seen Akira Fuji's coins across routine: Jet Coins? A friend of mine saw him perform it at a conventions and the best way he could described it was as "real magic." I've read about it in an issue of Genii Magazine and it looks pretty hard to say the least. If anyone could actually do this trick and make a video of it i would love to see it.

I saw Akira do this at the last A1 convention. In his hands it is one of the most beautiful pieces of coin magic I have ever witnessed.
It is in Genii, he also gave me the work on it. I can tell you the key to it is rhythm, and timing. Be patient and will start to look the way it should. |

Yeah, my friend saw him at that same convention, the one i missed . And my friend told me that Akira was really good at the sutble things, not just the sleights themselves but his timing and rhythm were perfect. Everything just flowed together so smoothly which was what made it such an amazing trick. The fact that its also impossibly difficult to do also makes it quite amazing.

I remember seeing it in Genii and thinking it would be a beautiful effect. I showed it to a friend who does a flawless muscle pass and even he said Jet Coins was far too difficult for him to ever perform.
I'd recommend using the Sylvester Pitch. It's much easier and accomplishes a similar looking coins across. Check out Dan Sylvester's- Sylvester Pitch '98 video.

I have yet to find a video of this effect. And as far as i know Akira himself is the only person that can perform this trick.

I have yet to hear of anyone that can do it other than him. As most know from my videos, I can do a pretty good muscle pass. Its a darn hard routine to try to do.

I take it this uses the M.P. in a coins across routine.
Wasn't the move originally used in this hidden way. If my memory serves me correctly it was in a Buckley book. Although at times (in practice)while using the horizontal M.P. the coin seems to be "invisible" I am not comfortable in doing this in performance. Harris

The Buckley book basically had someone turning their hand over their other hand and catching the coin in a hidden way you are correct. Here is the excerpt from Arthur Buckley's PRINCIPLES AND DECEPTIONS (1948):
"THE MUSCLE PASS WITH ONE SILVER DOLLAR The success of this coin pass depends on your ability to palm a coin and then exert pressure by the thumb muscle to cause the coin to spring several inches from the palm without any visible movement of the hands that would cause the coin to spring and bridge the distance between the two hands several inches apart. A coin, seemingly placed in the left hand but palmed in the right (see any of the methods described herein), is vanished, and the left hand shown empty, back and front. The right hand is moved up in front of the left. As the left hand is closed and turned over, the coin palmed in the right hand is sprung and caught by the left hand as it closes and turns over. A moment later the left hand is opened and the coin shown therein. A very deceptive pass when properly carried out." And yes, Jet Coins is a very difficult coins across with the MP. |
