Separagon - Woody Aragon (the Vault)
$29.99 (download) https://www.murphysmagic.com/product.aspx?id=70867 The Hype: Woody Aragon's name is synonymous with the creation of workable, potent card miracles that require nearly no sleight of hand. He's more about ingenuity, less about knack. This contribution to the magic community may be his most dynamic and versatile to date. This is Separagon. What is Separagon? A brilliant move that allows the magician to secretly separate cards without ANY sleight of hand. Odd from Even, Black from Red, Back from Face, and more. No difficult culling procedures or technical handlings are involved. Only a table or other flat surface is required. You'll learn this move in minutes and be able to add it to your repertoire almost immediately. Woody has curated 5 of the most potent, diabolical routines using the Separagon, and teaches them in painstaking detail from multiple camera angles. Oil and Water Ambitious Suit Memorization of the Cards Progressive Order Triumph Additional Content: How to utilize TPC (Tamariz Perpendicular Control) with Separagon Open Index - With the deck in your pocket, be able to remove ANY named card at a moment's notice Multiple Anti-Faro - A nearly self-working way of "unshuffling" the cards AND Further Tips on: Psychological points and justifications The spread Juan Tamariz's handling of Separagon My Take: If you are not familiar with Woody Aragon (and I am sure almost all of you are), he is another magician from Spain who has adopted Juan Tmariz' style of manic, hyper and wonderful card magic. When I see either Woody's name or Dani Da Ortiz as the creator of a trick or video, I cannot wait to get my hands on it as I am sure there will be something mind blowing on it. Woody has developed a style that is actually accessible to most card magicians. I have seen very few downloads that I think will become classics. This is one of them. The instructional download is an hour and 40 minutes long. At $29.99, it is a little more expensive than your standard download but in this case you get what you pay for. The video starts with a version of oil and water that I hadn't a a clue as to how it was done. Watching the video and spending a few minutes amazed me as to just how easy and deceptive it is. You can see the faces of all eight cards right up to the red-black-red-black phase. a beautiful piece of work credited to Luis Trueba. One thing Woody does that makes the Oil and Water worth a repeat is that on the second phase your audience expects the cards to separate but they don't. And using setting up the oil and water cards to cover any errors made in the culling is pure genius. Of course, the main focus of this video is on his Separagon. A separation technique that involves no culling. If you have ever seen Kostya Kimlat do his cull, it is amazing to watch. It even made Penn swear at him when he performed it on Fool Us. But I am one of those who have not mastered a single cull, let alone a whole deck. Perhaps my fingers are too dry because the cards will just not move the way I want them to. Separagon eliminates all that. You can accomplish the same thing so much easier with Woody's technique. Ambitious Suit - Two cards are chosen. One is left on the table face down. Not only is the chosen suit pulled from the deck but all the values are in order. Beautiful work. Memorization of the Cards. The deck is divided into two halves which are each shuffled by a spectator. The magician then names which cards are in each pile. . Progressive Order - The cards end up in numerical order. Triumph - the technique is used to create a deceptive Triumph. His open index is a very clever way to remove any named card from your pocket. No additional equipment needed. Obviously these routines are more complex than the basic but there are no difficult sleights. There is however a lot of brain work, both in handling and setup. A memorized deck is also used. Woody uses the Nikola system which can be found complete in Hugard's "Encyclopedia of Card Tricks". Woody says he got the idea for one element of one of his routines from Horatio Glasso of the 15th century. Didn't sound quite right to me. That would have dated about 100 years prior to Scot's Discovery of Witchcraft which I am pretty sure was the first published magic book. A little research showed me that he was actually from the 17th century and his book was published about 50 years after Scot's. This is not a technique you will master in one sitting. You will make errors but, as I said, he gives you a method to correct those errors. I would suggest starting with a half deck until you are comfortable and confident. Also, do not attempt to match his speed until you have the technique down. Go slowly until you can perform it with either no errors and just one or two. Then add cards and lastly, speed. This will not be time wasted. I will probably stick with the Oil and Water routine myself. It is a plot I am quite fond of and this is a great working. Once I get the Separaon technique down, this will become a major pice in my arsenal. If you are willing to put in the time and work, this is really a reputation maker. It will not only fool your audience but it will fry your fellow magicians. I don't think I could give this method a higher rating. This is a must have and gets my highest recommendation. Kudos, Woody. |

Sounds interesting... aside from the 'brain work'. I have less to work with than most.
