Hi,
what is your opinion about "Jiggernaut" by M. Jenest. Is this a useful single cup routine worth buying and performing? Thanks, Marcus |

Jiggernat is a nice little routine. It is good commercial thinking on Mark Jenest’s part. When you buy it you get all the props needed to perform a quick, amusing, and magical little cup and ball routine.
It touted, as a one-cup routine but is really a two-cup routine. The cups in question are a bar measuring device that has a one ounce “shot” or measure at one end and a two ounce “shot” or measure at the other. So it is as if two cups have been welded base to base. The necessary moves play off/use this configuration. It is almost impromptu and plays very well in a casual situation. I get good mileage (reactions) out of it. If you play bars, and do magic using beer bottles and bar glasses, cigarettes and the like (as I do) then this will fit the venue. If it fits your performance style then it will work for you. I tend to use real bar fruit and veggies rather than the fake ones supplied. The fake olives supplied are the best I have ever seen. They look real! I have a cut down baggie in my pocket and I can load olives, cherries, or onions without messing up the coat. The only complaint that I had was in the printing of the instructions. It was in that small size font that lawyers use for fine print in contracts. It was difficult for my old eyes to read.

Jiggernaut is an excellent routine. I have gotten some good mileage out of it in the restaurant. It fits well in the pocket, resets immediately, and is not terribly difficult.
I would recommend that you get Jennest's "Miracles While You Wait" video and learn from the tape. It's much easier to learn it that way. The tape also has some other excellent routines on it, like Short Hop, Billoon and Chaptrick that make it a great bargain.

I'd go along with Kaliix' recommendation. Get the video (for about the same price as the trick) and then go to your local restaurant supply store and get the Jigger. For about the same amount as for Jiggernaut alone, you get Jiggernaut plus a whole bunch of other routines!

Just to try and spark some ideas in you all,
I modified my jiggernaut into a chop cup, just to give it that little bit extra. |

One problem that you can run into doing Jiggernaut is that the jigger can turn into unintended chop cup. Either the olive or the corks can end up sticking inside of the cup end of the jigger. While it can be a great effect when it is routined into your performance, when it happens randomly, it can cause you some distress.
I've found that lightly coating the inside of the jigger with talcum powder usually alleviates the sticking problem. If your going to try and put together the props yourself, the hardest part will be trying to find suitable olives. I went to a craft shop (Michael's) and bought some fake grapes, green ones about the same size as olives. You can cut a round hole in the top, insert a piece of an old red sponge ball and voilá, instant olive complete with pimento

Thank you all so much for your deep insights. You convinced me, to give this effect a try.
Thanks for the talcum hint, Kaliix. I can really imagine, what a feeling this must be, when the olive suddenly vanished unexpected Marcus |

I perform this quite a bit in strolling situations. (Not that I stroll near as much as I would like) I wouldn't imagine my handleing with my persona makeing it ideal for a more formal tablehopping environment. I finish off (after the corks) by pulling a shot glass out of my coat pocket and pour a shot out of the jigger. which I drink. (good idea to fill it with tea. It looks like whiskey but still allows you to perform.) filling the jigger is quite easy, if you want to know how just PM me.

i love jiggernaut, My only reservation is that I am not that often in a position to use it, ie with table space, and clear sightlines for everyone, but of course this applies to many effects.
When I can use it I always do, It's a great effect that always gets a good response. Cheers Andy

First of all, in an atttept to be fair I thought I should mention the fact that I am a biased Cup & Ball magician so take my opinion for what its worth. I just picked up "Jiggernaut" and have absolutely adored the set and the routine ever since. Even though it uses uniquely different props, it actually reminds me of the Carl Andrews routine in a lot of ways. The instructions were well written and clear and I was well on my way to performing it minutes after reading the presentation. Unlike some of the other reviewers before me, I perform it in the oddest of places like my office at work and have received excellent responses.

Great trick. I think the presentation alone is great. Plus, it makes sense, especially if you do bar magic.
