Hi there,
I've always enjoyed Justin's approach and have looked at some of his work in the past (Improv, KOSBE). I recently order The Dexterity Manual (looking forward to receiving it). He has a lot of booklets and work out. Can anyone talk about some the his work they enjoyed (or didn't), what ideas they picked up or use, and what else might me worth looking into? Thanks a bunch. Lots of Higham material in his book with Roger Crosthwaite, the excellent, Roger's Thesaurus. One of my favourite books.

Seconded. The Thesaurus isn't as highly regarded as I think it should be. It features some great material.

I can highly recommend 'Pseudo Cheating Demos and Effects'. Some really nice approaches to slightless stacking. There's a routine called Jungian Poker which has become a staple of mine.

I'm lucky enough to consider Justin a friend; his material deserves much more attention than it gets. So, I'd recommend you buy all of his small booklets! However, if you enjoyed Secrets of Improvisational Magic and The KOSBE System, then The 75% Production and The Trick With No Method expands on the ideas in both and would make a sensible next purchase.

Having gone through 90% of his booklets - I have never been let down by a single one of them.
His 'Secrets of Improvisational Magic' is definitely one that I consider an absolute bible and surprised not as many people have picked it up yet. 'The 75% Production and The Trick With No Method' focuses on situational improvisation. As Justin mentions, the booklet expands on themes touched on in SoIM and The KOSBE System. So if you want to keep going down that Jazz/Improvisational rabbit hole - this could be a place to head to. A personal favorite of mine is his 'Bold and Illogical Card Moves'. Justin is an absolute powerhouse, especially when it comes down to illogical moves. All his moves and touches are practical, efficient, and just down right dirty - I love it. The 'Dexterity Manual' is definitely up there as one of the best in my opinion. Keep your eye out for CO2 on page 24....killer stuff... It contains an awesome variety of illogical moves, knuckle busters, novel approaches to classic moves/effects, a little bit of mentalism, gambling material - just a solid collection. What made me really made me fall in love with Justin's work is his IDF (Illogical Dribble Force). He has a separate booklet on the move named 'The Complete Illogical Dribble Force'. I would highly recommend this one. He goes into it in basic terms in the 'Dexterity Manual'. However, he makes constant reference to the original booklet as it is described in full detail there. I would love to talk more about his work - I don't think enough people are talking about it! |

I have a close friend who study Justin's work to heart and the joy of being fooled by Justin's materials simply outweigh trying to figure how things are done. Justin's magic is simple, but not simpler. |

Thanks for all in input everyone. Based on some of that I've ordered a few more of Justin's booklets. I appreciate his overall thinking and approach, 'bold and illogical' style, use and knowledge of sleights, understanding of effects, on and on. I'm looking forward to diving into more of his work...keep any thoughts coming.

Thanks, Denis. I love your magic book database, it's a very valuable resource.
Justin has also released a few of his moves and routines on video (available as downloads from Vanishing Inc): Justin Higham Vol 1 Justin Higham Vol 2 Justin Higham Vol 3 Reflections You can also get his "Three False Shuffles" DVD from International Magic. For those with zero budget, Justin has made some of his older manuscripts available for free on his website. Marty |

There was a DVD which contained all three volumes under the name 'Full House' but it looks like that's been discontinued. Of the three volumes, my personal favorite would definitely have to be volume 1. It's an absolute treat to listen to Justin discuss the fake cut principle, and especially the illogical controls. His 'Three False Shuffles' project is an absolute gem - its novel, its creative, and definitely leaves you with room to get inventive. |

Thanks again all. When purchasing from Justin, I also saw he had a couple newer 'Highlights' items.
