Before I moved to Tennessee my family always purchase a live tree to be planted in the Spring to enhance our garden.
We might have also had a larger, cut tree for kids, employees, etc. So, I convinced my current spouse of the advantages of having a live tree this year. An Internet search revealed that a nearby Lowe's carried live Christmas trees. I sadly learned that today "live" means "not artificial" and not related to the fact that it cut off, rootless and "not viable" after 15 weeks. Three employees found the idea of my wanting to plant a tree as humorous and even weird. When I did find a skinny spruce in a bucket that might serve, the clerk asked how I was going to put presents under a tree that small, and then told me the 90 day return policy to a tree I was buying "off season." So, I came home without a tree and wondering if the employees are actually alive.

My sister and I were having a similar discussion last night. We passed a bunch of cut trees for sale and I felt a need to attempt rescue of at least one.
"Maybe if we put it in a bucket of water, it will re-root, like a cut slip from a plant? I'm gonna look it up..." "What about the rest of them, which one do you save? We're not getting a tree..." "Well, maybe we can't save them all, maybe we could, but even if we can't, I don't think that means it would be terrible to try to help at least one..." I still need to look it up, so, we'll see... |

I don't get it. A tree is not a puppy. For sure, trees are essential for our environment. Producing oxygen,
absorbing CO2, providing food as well as soil stability. BUT trees are to be used. Building materials, supplying heat etc, and when they die and decay produce more life giving soil. I've been buying cut pine trees for Christmas for years and will continue to do so. Once they lick my face and want me to take them outside to do their business and lay next to me on the couch, I'll reconsider. I remember my Dad buying a live tree for Christmas when I was little and we replanted in our yard. It lasted many years and was a very nice memory.

Couldn't save all of them but at least one, by not getting one....thus the analogy of a puppy rescue. Oh well a tree is still alive even if it's cut. Mine is in the living room still drinking water I digress. Yes people and their understanding of issues such as terminology "live" or even moral issues have changed.

It's magicalaurie, and the saving I'm considering is to buy a cut tree and place it in a bucket of water, to see if it will grow roots- like cut slips from plants will, even without being placed in water. I can't buy them all, or maybe I could, but I could buy one and give it a try. My sister objects, saying we're not getting a tree.
So, regarding trees and puppies and my name and my statements, I think it may be beneficial to look a little more closely and consider a little more carefully... |

It's a public forum. If you don't want people to use your name or statements then..... misunderstanding is common and unfortunate.
One should try though.

My wife and I have a very special artificial Christmas tree. It became more special this year since our beautiful little four-legged daughter April went to be with the Lord on September 21st. This is the tree that she saw for the last few Christmases. We put up our tree every 18th of November to celebrate the date we received our keys to our home back in 2003. This year is going to be a lot different but in so many ways we are so much closer to the Lord now. Which brings me to a very important point ... Weather a real tree or artificial is a decision made by each individual person. But above anything else never forget the true meaning of our Christmas. Happy birthday Jesus and thank you....... for everything!
Merry Christmas everyone! Good magic to all, Eric,Amy and I'm sure from April too! |
