I purchased boom box and after watching the tutorial, I’m also interested in the lifespan of the gimmick. (I have not received the physical gimmick yet) Is it easily fixable? I don’t mind some arts and crafts but I imagine if the ** breaks it could pose a challenge to those who aren’t interested in the A&C. Craig did briefly say that he doubts it’ll break, but there is always the chance. I happen to have some ** so I’d be interested if penguin would provide a video on how to fix the gimmick if it were to break. Looking forward to getting my hands on this.

If anything, the fact that it's a cardboard case tells me that the cardboard will eventually wear out if heavily used for lots of other tricks. The mechanics of the gimmick don't appear to be impossible to fix so long as you can get some e*****c t****d. I may end up seeing if I can create one of my own from scratch and maybe add a modification or two. As discussed, the general idea and description that this is a himber in a box should tell you what you need to know. |

I just received boom box today and I can say it would not be too difficult to repair or make your own. Very satisfied with it all round.

Can I use this with a dollar bill folded into quarters? or would that be too thick?

Except none of the above do what Boom Box does... Boom Box is a perpetual switching device.

What is a perpetual switching device? What is the effect and how useful is it actually? How does one know that the other mentioned boxes can't perform the same function? Curious minds would like to know.

Boom Box can switch back and forth without any reset. All the others mentioned, from my understanding, use magnets and lock into place so (I could be wrong) no, they cannot do everything Boom Box does. They are all switching boxes, but they don't all have the same features.

Patrick is correct about M Case. I have it and it must be "set" ahead of time. Once it switches, it does indeed lock and so only one switch can be done with it. Boom Box can be switched back and forth.
On the other hand, Boom Box requires a discrepant "move" which really shouldn't be an issue, while M Case does not. |

I just got this and Craig does a fantastic job in his 90 minute tutorial. My only complaint is there is no index so if you want to find a particular routine…you have to do lots of hunting.

I just received Boom Box. I wanted a switching tool to go along with a trick I have that would be enhanced by switching a card. The promotional description said the tutorial includes 10 routines by Craig Petty, so I figured I could get more use out of it than I intended. So I bought it. The routines by Craig Petty are great routines.
Compared to other boxes, the mechanism that makes this work is attached with e****** t*****. It’s only there so the deck can be tilted forward with nothing falling out. There’s never any tension put on it, so I don’t predict it breaking any time in the foreseeable future. It will dry rot before I break it from performing. There are no m****ts in the Boom Box. Someone mentioned in a previous post that an odd or obvious move has to be made. The move is a very natural thing to do; it’s just that it normally wouldn’t be done when it’s done here, so a spectator could pick up on it. Odd? Yes, in the timing. Obvious? Not necessarily, even though it’s done right in front of the spectator. A simple, slight distraction for a split second might help. Maybe make eye contact, as Craig Petty suggested. I guess that’s what they call “audience management”. My guess is the vast majority of people won’t notice. The only other switching card box I have is M-Case by Mickael Chatelain. It has a locking mechanism that kept the gimmick from triggering before intended, and then kept it in place after triggering. However, the box looked strange inside when the gimmick was set, so in order to show the box was empty, I could only give a spectator a quick peek. A look inside Boom Box reveals nothing. M-Case could make one switch only, and then needed to be reset. As PatrickGregoire said, Boom Box can switch back and forth. I’m very glad I bought this. Again, Craig Petty’s routines are great. I can happily add Boom Box to the arsenal of switching devices I have: M-Case, Quiver+ Purse, Weiser Wallet (Himber type wallet), Himber envelopes. I wonder how many “outs”that gives me in total, when performing a card prediction. Anyone ever perform a card prediction with 5 switching devices at the same time?? Me neither. ???????? |
