Hello everyone,
I live in Taiwan. I've recenlty purchased the drawing board. There is a dry erase marker here that I've tried on the board and it rubs off a breeze. It's made by Pentel of Japan, and called MAXIFLO. Comes with a pump action top to keep the tip wet when it gets dry. The tip also doesn't get dry even if the end is left of. I also use these markers for my teaching English classes and they are the best I've ever used. They also make permanent ones which work really good for balloons. They cost less that $2 bucks and last for quite a long time. Just read the ingredients and they are alcohol based. All the best, JoJo

To mask the see-thru issue and also when you are in a surrounded environment, I used velcro at the top and then connect a black cloth to it, which is then draped over the back area. This covers the gimmicks and also resolves the see-thru issue.

I used the drawing board today in my kids show. Wow ? it went over great, but I accidently picked up my regular marker that I autograph with. It didn't erase (Oh woe is me ). When I got home I knew it was ruined and I prepared to order another cove sheet. After about an hour I decided to redraw my art with the proper market. guess what it erased perfectly. I am telling this just in case someone out there is as stupid as me

Terry. I did that too once. Bummer. Had to buy a new sheet of plastic.
B.K. There are lot's of magicians who don't do vent, but have good routines with the drawing board. David Ginn, B.J. Hickman are two I've seen. Both use a recording for the board's voice. Axtells AxTrax is another good option. |

Steve.........how about doing a tape with a British voice over? I could help you with that if you are interested. I am British, and do a lot of voice-over work here in the US. http://www.comicmagician.com

Can the Axtell Drawing Board be used at a house party where the kids are let's say five feet away, without exposing the methodology?
In my search I have found one post saying it can and one post saying it can't. I remember having the card rising version many years ago,and the problems I had with it:Erasure problems;method easily seen from 5 feet away;and I remember the plastic drawing surface used to buckle somewhat.(I have purchased several Axtell puppets over the years and have been very satisfied)I am wondering if these things concerning the quality of the Drawing Board have been addressed in the intervening years.I would appreciate any feedback from performers who actually use this item alot.Thanks. The only problem at any distance is to make sure that the board is not back lit, as the method of operation will be seen. Some people still have erasure problems, but not ones that cannot be handled, if you are using the recommended marker.

Be remembered for performing what looks like MAGIC, not skill.

I don't have any back light issues with mine. Maybe Steve changed the design awhile back. For sure, one thing to check is any mirrors/ glass doors behind your staging area. If so just hold the board more in front of you to cover it. As a vent, I feel the board is a powerful effect. I have been taken back many times I have seen it used in the wrong hands. Vent/ magic is an illusion that depends a lot on suprise. Nothing seems worse than someone pulling out a frame with facial feature scratches all over the front highlighted by lights glare. Gee, I wonder if he will draw a picture of a face?
Well worth it to do anything to remedy that problem. If you are doing two or three shows a week and using it each time I think there must be some money to repair props.

The Magic Café recommended me to use a few years ago. I bought it. I always enjoy it as much as the audience.

I love the board. I have been using it for years. I am not a vent but I make my own scripts on various topics that I use in my school shows. The fact that I am not a vent is to my advantage. Sometimes I even move my lips trying to fake the audience out. Sometimes they come up to me after the show and say "wow you're a good ventriloquist. or I saw your lips moving." This blows me away because there is so much double talk during my routines that it would be impossible if I were really a vent. It is very hard to make your own scripts but I have the process down to a science. I have about 10 board scripts and 5 Vern the Bird scripts that I use on a regular basis. If interested PM me and I can show you how to do it. JEff Blum
