Me too. I have 3-foot chinese stilts that I wear during walk-arounds.

What stilts are you after? I use dura-stilts. A bit expensive compared to the wooden ones but worth the extra if you ask me. I am not sure what Chinese stilts are? Enlighten me if you can! Depends what your needs are and what your budget is.

Down here in Orlando you can get dura-stilts for $225 or $200 if you buy more than one.
I make my own out of alumimum. |

Dura-Stilts are a lot like painters stilts, right? Painters stilts are heavier and they creak like old bed springs. The advantage is that you can stand still while wearing them. I don't know anyone who makes chinese stilts. I made my own. They are basically poles that strap to your legs. There is no broad foot at the bottom to retain balance. You have to correct for you own balance a lot by shifting around. It's still less work than having an extra three pounds strapped to each leg.
Mooseburger will make stilt pants for you if you send her the measurments you need. Be careful when practicing. A fall could kill you!

A good source for stilts is a pawn shop. As for sheet rock stilts. You can usually find them relatively cheaply.
I have limited experience with single poled stilts the the experiences I've had were not pleasant. Falling from four feet up without being able to catch yourself is hazardous to your health. |

A pawn shop is good. You can get them for around $100 there.

With friends! I you have none then in an area with walls for support or crash matts! as long as you have a good sense of balance then you are okay , the risk comes when performing teenagers wanting to see you fall and small children wanting to do laps round your ankles. If it wasnt for all the people street performing would be easy!

I heard you tie a rope between two trees and practice that way.
Thanks for all the info on where to find them. Tom

I have a friend who swears by dura-stilts, he finds them easier on the legs and good for standing still. I however, don't like them . I find them too heavy and the "give" a little disconcerting. I skinned my knees trying them out. Horses for courses, I suppose.
Chinese stilts are usually just the standard wooden ones and can be made at a fairly low cost. There are plans online for them somewhere but I couldn't find them maybe someone else will have better luck. I commisioned a freind of mine to build me a pair where the stilt is under the foot rather than to the side, I find them great for my needs. George |

Yes, he still make them. A company in Orlando bought the rights for them.
This company doesn't want any one to have them put them. They want to be the top dog here with the best stilts and costumes. He only make them for that company only. |
