So I've begin really focusing on coin magic recently, haven't really done much with it in the past. When practicing and starting out would you recomend practicing with big coins to palm easier and working towards smaller coins or start with smaller coins that might be harder to hold but easier to hide and work your way up to bigger coins?

Use the coin size that feels most comfortable in your hands. There has been a trend since the popularity of Three Fly to use dollars, because they are more visual for parlour use. However, many people find a dollar is harder to conceal. Half dollars are the size used by the majority of magicians. They are small enough to conceal well, yet big enough to be easily seen. Quarters have their place, but in general are too small for general use.
S.E.M. (The Sun, the Moon, and the Earth) is a sun and moon routine unlike any other. Limited to 100 sets, here is the promo:

It depends on what you're trying to do. The classic palm, for example, is easier with larger coins, especially if you're trying to palm a stack. Just use whatever works best for you, but bear in mind that larger coins are easier to see unless you're working close up.

Although my tips wouldn't have as much weight as Mr. Neighbors and Dr. Rubenstein's (as they have been groundbreakers), my suggestion would be half dollars. When I started, I used our location coin denomination, so I could perform coin magic anywhere with something organic. It just to happens our P5 Coins is almost the size of the half dollar back then. So I easily transitioned over.

Don't forget the Susan B. Anthony dollars! Bigger than a quarter. Look better than the "gold" coins.
