Now THIS is an exciting discovery with many possibilities.
It is a portable item which could be used in all manner of close-up magic, for "scrying" - who knows what you can think of! An entire routine might be developed around mirrors and reflections. One of these TRUE MIRRORS might be aged and presented as a dangerously accurate antiquity - a "magic mirror" which does not reverse reflections. "Beware of The Truth!" Think of the wicked Queen in Snow White! After gazing into a True Mirror, the Magician or objects might reveal themselves surreally REVERSED or flipped! A page of normal writing could change into a page of mirror writing. Left and right hands could switch places. Had to share this with you all. Let me QUOTE from their site: (link below) "From prehistoric times, people have only seen themselves reflected backwards. As it turns out, the backward images we see and interact with everyday are profoundly different from what is real. No wonder we are so often off in our self-evaluations compared with how others see us! A True Mirror does not reverse images. That is, if you hold writing up to it, you can read what the writing says. In it, you see yourself as you really are. It is something few people have ever seen before. A True Mirror is surprisingly more than a simple novelty item. We are excited to introduce it as a new doorway to a great world of self-discovery and enlightenment. The introspective use of the True Mirror can be an important boost towards your own self-acceptance and greater self-esteem. This happens by authenticating your own actual image and expressions as you exist in real life, and as your are seen by everyone else. The incorrect view of yourself you see in a traditional mirror can be major source of self-doubt and self-criticism - simply because it is not the "real you" when your eyes meet in the mirror. How can you understand yourself when there is such distortion? We've discovered some fascinating aspects of human nature that arise when people see their true appearance. Many people continue to be amazed at the ways that they respond to a True Mirror -- everything from sheer "this is the most amazing thing - I love it!" delight, to "I'm scared of the real me!" fear, to "what are you talking about?" indifference. It is an interesting litmus test of how a you relate to your self-image, to others, to images in general, and to the concept of your "inner self." http://www.truemirror.com/ and two great books they sell r.e. Pretty cool but $150 for a couple of mirrors is a little steep for me.

Charles,
Thanks for sharing this. I don't know if I'll purchase one, but the principle is very cool. |

True, reflection offers insight, and perspective.
Is a mirror also a view into a C/P/T alternate universe?

If you place two of the True Mirrors facing each other, does it open a portal to another dimension?

I tried playing with two of the mirrors on my bathroom medicine cabinet. Other than a space in the center, it looks very surreal, and take a bit of practice for combing the hair!
Most interesting!

Can a digital camera on your PC can do the same thing for you without extreme fussing or mirrors?

Using a two-way you can turn your computer (or one hidden in another room) into a "ghost machine" or a girl-to-gorilla device! I was wondering what you think the impact and results a magician might discover in using his "true" reflection for daily practice, versus his opposite "false" reflection, as we all usually do. It would be confusing at first, but would it ultimately make your illusions/sleights subtly more accurate and authentic, because you have practiced doing EXACTLY what your audience is seeing, and, thus, in no way compensating left and right brain lobes? Thoughts? Redienhcs Selrahc |

Teleconference software always mirror reverses the image of the local user so that their own image looks familiar. To do otherwise causes distraction. A camcorder's flip-out panel probably does the same thing when flipped so it can be seen from the front, for the same reason.
You can experience the true mirror effect yourself with a video camera and a TV... If you use a flat panel monitor in a picture frame and a tiny camera, you could make a flat one. There is also an amazing version made out of 100s of individual wooden blocks controlled by a computer, called the wooden mirror: http://fargo.itp.tsoa.nyu.edu/~danny/mirror.html (By day, I design embedded systems software. We have done a lot of work on video equipment over the years, and I have spent the last year or so playing with several camera design projects. When I saw the wooden mirror, I had to surpress the urge to go buy 1024 servo motors and...)

As several of the posts above indicate, there are possibilities around practice, or other effects when using mirrors, besides, are there not old phrases relating to magic being nothing more than smoke and mirrors! Consider it brainstorm material, 7th!
There is a fellow at work who is able to generate some rather astonishing 3-D computer screen imagery using a video camera, a couple mirrors, and careful alignment, rather amazing! There is even a group working on 3-d x-ray imagery. There are always possibilities for using the everyday, as well as the unusual in magic, especially in Magick!

I wonder if you constructed a true mirror recessed into your wall covered by an ornamental frame containing a sheet of glass, if you could freak out your dinner guests?

I have much more efficient ways of freaking out dinner guests.
If YOU made one, the manufacturer would be less than pleased about it. Likewise, your guests may or may not be impressed. Have you read the account of the fingerprint on the glass that ruined the living head illusion?

I have much more efficient ways of freaking out dinner guests. So do I, but this is really subtle and doesn't involve me removing my trousers. Quote:
