There are a number of routines out there that Troy Hooser started with his Chinese Charm Challenge. What is the best ribbon to use? Cloth? Silk? Velvet? Others? Can you also site where to get this "best" ribbon? Thanks. .

Google red polyester 1/4 inch ribbon or search EBay. Mine is a spool which says 100 percent polyester. I suspect satin would also work.

Thanks guys!! Since we're on the subject, any direction for finding "Blackened" Chinese Coins similar to Lance Pierce's "Recharmed, I'm Sure" kit? I can't seem to find his kit sold anywhere nowadays. .

It doesn't sound like you're looking for replacements, so it likely doesn't need to be the exact same coins as the ones he used. There are a large variety of Chinese coins on the market, but without your being specific, it's impossible to recommend an alternative. |

I'm looking for Darkened, Half dollar-sized, "Real" Chinese coins with some weight to them. These aren't replacements, but I would like to have a set of 4. .

Those are nice (I have a few of them). I am trying to get the bronzed areas even more "tarnished black". .

Maybe use liver of sulphur followed by super fine steel wool and age them (tarnished black) to your liking.
https://a.co/d/bEKXICP Or, there’s Jax Black Darkener that’s made for brass, bronze and copper. Many Chinese coins are brass. https://a.co/d/2wbfV66 You’ll have to first remove any lacquer and existing faux aging with acetone (or 99% alcohol) followed by steel wool to get to the base metal. From there you can make them look however you want. |

If you're willing to go with replicas, along with the set GJo recommends, https://www.ebay.com/itm/334719981582 is quite nice. but it again has a slight artificial look to it. I don't know how well any of these sets would respond to the chemical aging tools. You didn't mention weight at all (coin thickness), so if that's not a concern you could go with something like this: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00MZKBLCE or https://www.amazon.com/Chinese-Fortune-I......7L4MRHBC (I havne't checked diameters, I'm going for the type of coin), which are typically solid brass and _would_ chemically darken well. The tradeoff is that they're usually quite thin coins, but that's also a plus for some folks and their handling. |

TCC Artisan has a brass Chinese coin set: four coins plus shell.
They’re polished, but TCC has a tutorial explaining how to age them. The aforementioned Jax Black would also work once the lacquer was removed. https://tccmagic.com/collections/artisan......13714154 One positive is their thickness. Currently sold out, but probably not for long. |

Hi TonsOfQuestions... I see what you mean. Those 2 Amazon sitting look good. The first is for Half Dollar-sized. The second is for Dollar-sized. I placed an order for the 2nd (https://www.amazon.com/Chinese-Fortune-I......7L4MRHBC) and I will let people know here. - - - - - - - - - Hi NicholasD25... I also ordered a Red "satin" ribbon (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B099PSTPLR/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&th=1). I'll also let you know. - - - - - - - - - Hi GJo... I'd like to experiment with these gels and other chemicals that you mentioned for Brass, etc. Right now, interns of Patina (Tarnish), my focus is on my Silver Coin Replicas... I'm getting there though. .
