I am on my way to college and since the dorms are limited in size, bringing my collection of props, dvd's, videos and trick decks etc. would not work. I'd like to increase my collection of books so I can keep learning w/ accumulating more items. I am primarily a card worker so can anyone recommend books that are intermediate-advanced in technique w/ visual magic.
I have AOA, Expert at the Card Table, Magician's Handbook and Tarbell 1&2. Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated...Thanks -Brian |

Not knowing what your interested in, I'd have to say invest in the rest of the Tarbell volumes and don't look back.

As you going to college, and you are a cardworker, what would fit better than Card College volume 1 - 5, by Roberto Giobbi.

If you're looking for card books to take I'd say:
Dai Vernon's Inner Card Trilogy by Lewis Ganson Revolutionary Card Technique by Ed Marlo Classic Magic of Larry Jennings by Mike Maxwell Complete Walton Vol. 1 and 2 by Roy Walton Complete Works of Alex Elmsley Vol. 1 and 2 by Minch The List could go on and on, but that will give you a strong foundation of card work that will keep you busy for some time. Also take your copy of Erdnase with you. You might think about Ortiz's books at some point to, but I'd start with those listed. |

I second Vernon's Inner Card Triology, and would also like to add his Ultimate Secrets Of Card Magic.

Thanks everybody... I just ordered the Marlo book, Revolutionary Card Technique, I like his material alot, but wasn't aware of this book. I've heard good things about it already. I'm thinking of getting card college within the near future...as soon as I'm not broke..ha.
thanks -brian |

No way you should have the Marlo book before the Giobbi books.

I disagree, but can see how you feel that way. I'd personally just rather go to other sources than Giobbi, although that provides a nice reference volume, and introduction to card magic.

You might also want to think about some books on the performance of magic.
I'd recommend - Mastering the Art of Magic by Eugene Burger Maximum Entertainment by Ken Weber The Magic of Michael Ammar by Michael Ammar Bob

Why not just take Erdnase and Expert Card Technique, and perhaps the new compendium of Marlo's card stuff, and work on mastering those texts when you're not hiting the books. Between classes and your new classmates, there may be less time than you anticipate for other things.
You get to attend college only once you know. . . Good luck! |

Yup...he should have gone for Card College. With THAT kind of foundation the guy can make up his own tricks.

If you're worried about space and weight, take advantage of the resources available at Lybrary.com and carry a killer magic book collection on your laptop or PDA! (Card College 1, Erdnase, and Expert Card Technique included.)
