I saw the demo of this effect & it looked awsome, has anyone seen it in person or does anyone own it.as a culprit/victim of magic store retail, I know how things read in print or look on a demo, but it's a completely different ball gamewhe you get it home.

I looked at the demo for this, and I can honestly say that it looks more confusing than impressive (but that may just be me). I'm one of those who really just like clean looking rope magic. Though this does look like it could be a good routine, I think some of it just looked a bit ... I donno...confusing!
If this really is an ungimmicked effect, it'd be just a matter of watching closely to work out the handling...

I own a set of Optical Ropes... it's a pretty amusing effect, but you do have to sort of 'guide' the audience through it, giving them cues to notice the change each time.

Ahhh, but so they can tell what's what, I know people aren't stupid , but I'm worried that it may be too "magical"

I figured as much - I think you're right tho magicswan; it really does seem gimmicked...
As for being too magical, I don't know really what you mean - something like Pavel's walking knot, where you cut a rope, tie a knot, slide the knot, and then untie the rope to show the ends have moved - I mean, that's pretty magical. With optical ropes, I think it's just a bit busy in terms of things too look at...what do you mean then by being too magical...

Yeah..too much going on in the trick. pavel's rope is easy to follow. hanging out & learning from dean dill, he told me to always keep it simple...so that's what I try to do. nice effect though.

Hey, is there only one version of Pavels Super Walking knot? ie, does he make the rope using both methods or can you only buy the sf model (if you know what I'm saying)...

Is Pavels Super Walking knot difficult to master?

I have optical ropes and never used it. Quite confusing, and too many things to remember.

I saw the on-line demo of optical ropes and was not impressed at all. The handling was VERY cozy - if I were a layperson, I'm sure I'd suspect something was being hidden in the hands.
I belive Pavel Makes three versions of the Walking Knot. The first is a stage version where the knot can be slid anywhere on the rope; the second is a stage version where the knot can only be slid to a few selected positions. Then, there's a third version which is suitable for parlor/close up. It's not real difficult to master, but certainly will take some practice to do smoothly (and it must be done smoothly to look good). Ron |

Tying and untying the knot takes a little learning, but with misdirection, talk over and take the heat off the moment and you are home free.

Yeah, I got the walking knot. It looks good. I saw Penn and Teller do it at o Mallon TV once.
Oh God, I went to one web site & saw a really god awful demo of this effect...he may as well had tipped the method & oh god don't even get me started on his presentation of dean's box. |

I purchased optical ropes a while back, and have had good reactions to it. The instructions that come with the effect, however, need improvement.
Yes, the ropes are gimmicked, but with practice, you can really make the ropes look normal. And the gimmick is different than anything I have ever seen. no magnets, no snaps, nothing like that. I wore my ropes out, and am about to order a new set. Great effect.
The difficult must become easy, the easy beautiful and the beautiful magical.
