To me it seems stupid to include it in the demo if its not included. It I were to watch the demo, I would think I could end clean just like him.
Also, and because of the nature of the cards, the creator should know it would be very hard to get some of these. It would be differnt if they used normal cards.

That is the only thing I had agaisnt the trick is that the cards were not normal, which to me, gives more reason for the spectator to reach out and grab them. I have not seen a demo of it, but I will watch it. I just seen the manuscript of it, and I liked it, other than the cards looks.

Ok first off let me make things clear. I see that the topic is headed in the direction of how the effect works. Let's not expose it.
As for what you get when you purchase the effect is EVERYTHING needed to perform the effect. Yes there is a switch if it is needed and if it is needed you do get the extra cards to do the switch. You get a total of 6 cards with the instructions. I want to make everything clear to everyone. So I will start from the beginning. Why are the cards "special?" Seems to be a big question. When I was creating the effect I started out using regular bicycle cards. I showed some people and they loved it. I then showed some friends while we were drinking and 2 of them started asking too many questions and the others lost track of what was going on. So I thought for awhile,"how can I make an already simple effect even more simple?" I came up with the idea of using cards similar to those of Color monte. "Simple shapes." I then did some test runs and tried it out on friends and family. They preferred the "special cards." They said it was easier to follow along and they liked the way the cards looked. I wanted to use regular cards because it is what people see everyday. They are used to it, but I found that using the "special cards" is more eye catchy and it drew more people to see what I was doing. It wasn't just another card trick. Now to the "switching." I can say that out of all of the times I have performed this I have not had to switch the cards out very often. It all depends on the spectators. If there is a heckler in the group then yes I will switch them out. I have NEVER been questioned about the cards while performing this effect. Like I said, included with the package is 2 extra cards in the case that a switch is needed. Magicians seem to look into effects too much. "I don't like the cards because they are not normal looking and spectators will think they are "trick" cards." I say, let the spectator think what they wish and when they have the chance to look over the cards all they want they will be convinced with what they see. This effect is very simple to learn. The moves are EXTREMELY easy but as for any magic effect it is not how the trick works, it is how it is performed and that takes practice, practice, and more practice. I really hope this clears everything up. What you get when purchased is the instructions and everything needed. (6 cards!!) |

Now I would like to reply to Mr. Aaron Shields. Constructive criticism is one thing but just flat out bashing a persons effect is not something I would expect from a fellow magician. I respect that you are intitled to your opinion as is everyone. If you don't like it then don't buy it. How many times did you watch the demo? How long did it take you to anylize the demo? Did you watch it frame by frame? The demo is there to give you a sample of what the effect is. It is not there for your entertainment. You say, "If I were a dealer carrying this product I would require that the video be re-filmed." Well news flash, you are not the dealer carry this and the dealers carrying this effect chose to use the demo as is. It is out of your hands so why make a fuss about it?
The effect has much logic to it. Yes the cards are being displayed by putting them on the table one at a time. If you paid closer attention you would see that the cards are displayed in that way to show the spectator what they are and if you listened you would hear why they are what they are. Yes the cards are picked back up. You can't do the effect without handling the cards. The cards are put back on the table so the spectator can cover the cards with their hands. The cards can be put in the spectators hands and sandwiched. It depends how the performer chooses to do it. The cards are shown and there is an explanation of why they look the way they do. The cards are covered by the spectator and they transpose. The effect is made to be simple and to the point. There is no need for elegance in that. You can't have a more logical procedure than displaying cards then placing them on the table to be covered. I do agree that it would be ridiculous to say that everything is examinable if the extra cards were not included and that is why the extra cards are included as I made clear in my last post. You can't stand it when people endorse products that shouldn't be on the market in the first place? Well there are others who like the effect and they carry it and I think they know what people like. Maybe that's why they decided to market the effect. Like I said you are intitled to your opinion and so is everyone else as Michael Ammar and Doc Eason said, and I quote "The effect is great...and stunning." "This is a neat effect." It is not your nor their opinion that touch me. It is the opinion of the spectator which means the most to me. Isn't making a spectator happy and having them believe and forget about the problems of the world for a short time what performing magic is all about?? |

Ok guys, my apologies. I read over the manuscript again, and it does come with 6. I feel like an idiot. I am sorry for the mix up, and I apoligize to the creator for the mis-understanding.
Even though there was that slight mis-understanding, still know I stand by this 100% and I WILL go to bat for it. I am glad the creator spoke up on this thread, again my sincere apologies. Later, James Watkins |

Hello Jynx,
I just wanted to pop in here and say that all of us here at Hocus Pocus love this effect. Thank you for giving us the opportunity to introduce this to the magic community. Continued success. |

You're correct, you're entitled to your opinion, as I am entitled to mine. I only watched the video demonstration once.
I don't think my previous post was outright bashing, merely my opinion on seeing the trick. If you think it's harsh, that's fine. I've always rejected the idea that just because someone else is a magician you have to be nice to them. As I care about magic, I'm much more likely to be harsh to other magicians than people not involved with magic. I have no problem giving my friends in magic the same harsh criticism I gave you, if I think that they deserve it. As soon as you release a trick to the public, you're open to public criticism and have to take it both ways, good and bad. I still stand by my opinions, and although I'm the only one who has expressed my opinion in a publiuc forum, as people have contacted me privately, I know I am not alone in my sentiments. Just one question, if all that matters to you is the spectators' reactions, why bother releasing it to magicians then? |

When I perform this effect as with any I love to see the look in the spectators eyes. The look of amazement. I can compare it to a child believing in santa claus or any other thing that is not real. When I see that look in my sons eyes it is an indescribable feeling. What real life problems does a child have? If I can make 1 person forget about the problems of the world for a short time while performing a simple effect then I feel good. To me that is when the real magic happens. With my effect I get good reactions and I wanted to share that with everyone. I released it just to share what I am proud of.........

What could be easier to follow than red aces and black aces?
Also a comment on this statement : "Magicians seem to look into effects too much. "I don't like the cards because they are not normal looking and spectators will think they are "trick" cards." And why not? I love performing with everyday objects, and if I can perform an effect that a spectator can relate to vs. one a spectator cant, and will most likely question, ill choose the first option. I think your point there is very weak. Im not saying the effect is bad, I just had to comment on that statement.

I agree with you. I too like to perform with every day objects that people can relate to. All I was saying is that the cards are eye catchy and people like them. The only people who have questioned my cards are magicians. I see a lot of magicians, when watching magic tend to watch for moves or gimmicks instead of watching in enjoyment. That is what I meant by magicians look in to effects too much. The cards are different. Sometimes change is good. There are many effects out there that don't use every day objects. I prefer to use every day objects but see nothing wrong with mixing things up some....

I purchased this effect for the simple reason that the large shapes and contrasting colors may appeal to a younger office and does not immediately look like ANOTHER card trick.
I like the effect, I just have to work out a method to switch the cards at the end |

Ok here are my thoughts...
Sorry for the misunderstanding about what is included with the package. There was some wrong information provided which you have cleared up. But, I do have to agree with Aaron. The demo video was not very good and when you put something out on the market you will have to face all criticism, good or bad. For instance, the count at the beginning (which flashes), in my opinion, is no good. Maybe a casual show of one or two backs as you comment on why/what they are followed up by the lift sequence would be more than sufficient. Also, I am still curious about the cleanup... I have performed Daley's Last Trick many times and the spectators will (75% of the time) go for the cards. That is just natural for them. Something impossible has happened and they want to see how it was possible. The position you are left in at the conclusion of your routine is not very favorable... So, how would you go around this if called on? And are all of these points detailed in the booklet? S.Segal |
