I've been working on Cliff Green's Ace of Spades as the Sorcerer's Apprentice. One thing is puzzling me. If I'm reading the instructions correctly, either the way Green says to set-up the cards and perform it is wrong, or there is no need for an extra card. I don't know if I should get any more specific here, but if you do this effect, please email me at worldlit@pacbell.net and we can discuss it further. Thanks.

Hello Jim,
Welcome to one of the most confusing books to grace the shelf. Green is essentially correct . . . you need three red cards and the Ace of Spades. Otherwise, you could not cleanly display 3 red cards in the beginning. I'm referring to "Prelude to the Sorcerer's Apprentice" in "Professional Card Magic." The effect that follows (that you are referring to, I believe) is typical of the barely comprehensible scribblings in the Green book. By all accounts, Cliff Green did perform the effects well . . . but you are indeed a brave soul to attempt to take his writing literally! It is a unique brand of platform card magic - hard to imagine the 5 as 1 start working well close-up. Don't tell me you are popping aces in your mouth as well? You've picked a formidable read indeed! |
