Helo..I'm not sure where to post this...so I'll just post it here, and moderators may move this to an appropriate section if they want to...
Anyway, to you guys who use Paypal...How many % do they charge you for sending money?? I only know that if it involves a currency exchange, they charge you 2.5% for it, is that true? Are there any other fees that I should know of? and is it cheaper to pay via credit card? thanks |

If you are buying something or being paid for something you sell and the transfer is done electronically through PayPal into or out of your checking account then there is no charge. PayPal charges the seller if a credit card is used and the % depends on the amount sent. PatPal makes money on these feeless transfers by holding onto your money for a few days so they collect interest.

Almost.
If you are a Premium Member (ie: You have supplied Pay pal with your $$ info etc.) and you SELL something...you are charged the fees whether they pay by credit card...pay pal account...Electronic Check or whatever. The Buyer is never charged no matter how they pay (except by their own card company.) The trick is (I learned too late) is not to give all your info and allow your $1,000 (allowance for no fee transactions) to go by before you do. In other words you can recieve money and not be charged if you haven't declared your details of Checking Account, Credit Cards etc. and become a premium member. The drawback is you can only use your Pay Pal account to use the money recieved...ie: Spend it on eBay. Doug

If you have a personal account instead of a business account with PayPal there is no charge for receiving or sending money. Personal accounts cannot accept credit card payments. Go to this Paypal link for their fees:

I don't use PayPal anymore after being clued in by my 15-year-old nephews (hey, kids know computers) which got me to thinking and resulting in my finding the following web sites. Is this out in left field or legitimate?

I heard that someone that lives near me got scammed by someone who tapped in and got there info through Paypal somehow. They had some funds stolen but the guy got caught. I had just signed on to Paypal when this happened so it has worried me, but I haven't had any problems yet. (Knock on wood)

It's funny we are talking about this because just this morning I got a fake email purporting to be from PayPal. It said:
"Dear PayPal user, Your account has been flagged in our system as a part of our routine security measures. This is a must to ensure that only you have access and use of your paypal account and to ensure a safe PayPal experience. We require all flagged accounts to verify their information on file with us. To verify your information, please click here. Thank you for using PayPal!" By all cosmetic appearance it looked like a legitimate email from PayPal. However, the "please click here" link takes you to another web site that steals the information as you "verify" it. This is probably the most common scam directed at PayPal users. Be alert! (We need more lerts).
