I have been practcing the Gadabout coin routine from Modern coin magic and am a little concerned about the ending. The situation is that you have apparently placed two coins in the left hand, but have secretly kept them in you right hand; then you pick up the third coin and place it in your pocket along with the others. My concern is that the three coins can be heard "talking" when I put them in my pocket, no matter how careful I am. HAs anyone done this routine or one similar? Am I just being paranoid? Suggestions?

I have I tend to just have some other change in my pocket so if they ask I pull out a pokect full of change and leave the third coin and no ones the wiser.

There are quite a few topics about this, you'll find them if you search for them.
One possibility is having other change/keys in your pocket and make noise everytime you put a coin in your pocket, this way the last time won't seem any different. Or put a hanky in your pocket and place them on different sides/middle of it, or wrap them in the hanky. Also with a bit of practise, if you are in a room with background noise (eg a bar) and are talking you should be able to put them there without any extra items without anyone noticing. |

Agreed, please use the search function and find the trick, and find a recent thread on this subject.

Just a suggestion. Ron Bauer has a nice version of this that he not only helps you work out the handling, but also the routine/patter itself. His website has several videos that you can download and watch him performing the routine itself.

Put your hand in your pocket holding all 3 coins and hold them there... leave your hand in there keeping them quiet... then open your left hand and reveal that they've gone and then shake all 3 in your pocket... use the talking to create a magical moment.... "All of them have gathered in my pocket!!"
Just a suggestion...

Have the coins in a coin purse and when you place the purse back into your pocket get the extra coin. then at the end put one coin into the purse and on coin on each side of the purse. or the silk in the pocket will work well also. from what I remember about the gadabout coins is that one will end up in the opposite pocket as the other 3 so there will not be problem with the final 3 talking with the extra coin.

I keep a hanky in the pocket and push them round that.
If you are worried by the thought of noise, shake your left hand, it is suposed to be holding coins after all. I usually finish by showing three silver coins at the end after using pennies. The empty hand struck me as a bit weak. |
