Guns don't kill people, but they help.
The Second Amendment to the Constitution of the United States of America reads Quote:
A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed. It seems to me that IF you are a member of a "well regulated Militia" you have the right to own a firearm. If there is a danger to our "Free State" (we aren't actually "free" but I digress) then we have the need for a "well regulated Militia" and IF you are a member of said Militia you can own a firearm. Individual rights vs Collective rights is at the heart of the debate. Also we need to look at WHEN this amendment was ratified which by the way was December 15th 1791. Why did we need a militia? Because in those days the people that founded America did not trust the government with a military. In Europe the military had been used as a means of oppression. In fact back then most states had laws REQUIRING men of age to own a gun, powder and bullets. This was in case of attack by bandits/ American Indians and even soldiers from another state. Today it's to protect your family from burglars/Bears and snakes oh my! The advocates say that by carrying a gun they are exercising their Second Amendment rights. When you read the amendment IN CONTEXT I just don't see how that fits. If you aren't part of a militia (now the National Guard) or are under a direct threat of occupation you shouldn't have a gun. No argument to the contrary makes any sense to me. Maybe I'm a bit narrow minded but I've tried seeing the other side and it just doesn't make sense. |

",the right of the p e o p l e to keep and bear arms..."
No explaining necessary to me.

A well regulated militia (obviously absolutely necessary) and the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed. The people were the militia and vice versa and the uninfringed right applies to both.

What kind of argument is that?
Ever heard of circular reasoning? I must be allowed to bear arms because the Constitution says I can and if the Constitution says I can, I must be allowed to bear arms. Seriously do a little research. Ask some serious questions of our laws. |

I believe the oft quoted statement is "Those who live by the sword, die by the sword."
I have had need of the sword on one or two occassions so I think I will leave y'all with another quote I am fond of. "From my cold, dead hands."

AND there'll be cleaning up the dead guys blood and/or brains.

Prospero, you wrote
"Handguns are meant to kill people. Simple as that." Well then my gun isn't being used for its proper purpose, all I have ever killed with it are paper targets. The columbine killers violated atleast 16 GUN LAWS, I'm sure 1 more would have made them stop. Mr Ed, you want to make the manufactures responsible for the use of their products. Ok, the next time someone gets hit by a car, sue the car company. If a kid drinks rat poison, sue the company and the store who sold it. If someone gets stabbed with a pencil, sue the pencil company, the logging company and the land owner. If I sell my car and the person I sell it to runs over a kid. I AM NOT RESPONSIBLE!!! Once I sell a product, I am not responsible for its illegal or negligent use. My favorite saaying: When guns are outlawed, I'll be an outlaw. |
