It had been a few years since doing the Torn to Shreds escape between two trucks so last weekend was a reminder to me of several aspects not known to those who have not tried this themselves, the following will be of interest to those wishing to attempt such a feat.
Use chains at least ten mtrs long for maximum visibility (A truck at either end of a twenty mtr span will fill out any size arena.) Write out your spiel sheets in detail as fixing two chains to the trucks with your own chaining up takes at least ten minets, dead spots will kill it all. Do the countdown slowly with the truck engines reving up with horns and lights flashing. Use a quick easy restraint (I used Siberian Chain)As truck drivers, even under instruction are a law to themselves and premature movement will result in twenty feet arms ! Note : Upon the instruction for the trucks to move off tearing you limb from limb, there is a dead spot (No heavy vehical pulls off like a rocket) So do not release yourself until the trucks actualy start to move. Then allow one of the trucks to drag you a few feet for effect. Note : Do not let the trucks take up the slack on the chains, best and safer to take up the slack through your elbow loops with the return of chain pulled and padlocked to itself. Hope the above is informative for those with a bent for this type of stunt. |

Thanks for the pointers, Kondini! I would love to try this one... wondered about a special link in one of the chains that would pull out like a plug if the timing was off making it appear as if the chain snapped... anyways, you remind us that, as in all escapes, attention to details and timing are so very important. Thanks again and great job!

Riley your right on, this was the remark by the press afterwards >>>>Quote>>>>Kondini a master of his art or madman, was he useing false arms, false trucks or was it magic which could have been tragic.Etc etc, well its off to North Yorks (Pickering) For another 6 gags next week, all being well that the Bucks Steam Rally at Thame this week causes no problems.Regarding the soft link pastorclyde, yes have used this idea in the standard chain escape useing a marriners cleat as a link but with these monster truck shows the type of persons that you deal with leave nothing unexamined hence the borrowed padlocks and use of the siberian chain as preference, it was the purist way to do it and also simple as well. Also of note>>>being covered in a blindfold hood added a lot to the effect and gave extra cover with the bundle of chains enabling me to be free before the crowds realised. The only thing that I would suggest would be to give it a try out with the drivers before the show (This was not possible due to the trucks arriving on the show day)But I feel that the overall effect could have been presented in a more polished way. Still we live and hopefully learn.
