I am currently using Yomega saber raider and was wondering if there is a better one out. Thanks

What do you want to do with a yo-yo?
Stay away from Yomega. Go with Duncan. What's your skill level? Are you good or are you beginning? Chris |

It depends if you want to do string tricks or loop tricks. I have a magazine with a lot in them so I can tell you which ones are good for whichever type of tricks you plan on doing. (Or maybe a little of both?)

I used to have the Duncan Imperial, and treasured the 50 cent book of yo-yo tricks I ordered from Duncan. The Butterfly was trendy for a while, but for old school yo-yo, the Imperial is the one. No frills, it shows understated elegance (I think they even made a real gold anniversary model at one point), and it makes point that you're making the magic, not the yo-yo.

I am friends with people that go to the National Yo-yo Competitions and to the World Yo-yo Competitions. Matter o' fact I am good friends with a guy that knows every single person in the yo-yo community, he's been in the game for 8 years I believe....
Yo-yos aren't your typical "toy" anymore. Chris |

Henry's makes a great one, the "Viper". You can adjust the width of the axis for either a really fast yo-yo or really long sleepers.

Hey everyone,
Thanks for the responses. I am looking for a good yoyo to do string tricks with, and a yo to do loops with. I am a beginner, but can almost do split the atom, Double or nothing, things like that. But the yo I have is on the blink. Thanks for the help. Best, Bradley

Im sure you can do a lot more if you can almost do Split The Atom. that's a more advanced version of the Brain Twister. You should probably give yourself some more credit.
I actually cannot find the magazine...Its been a while since Ive used it. :/ I personally have a Spin Master III YYJ which can sleep for 30 seconds or more. Its not the best but you can do just about any trick with it. (its made for string tricks) I might be able to check online and see if I can find a place that sells them and tells you about each yo-yo. If I do, Ill be sure to post the link here as soon as I find it. James |

Team Losi's "Da Bomb" is my favorite (with rim weights for added "sleep" time).
It basically depends on what you want to do. Long sleep time for string tricks, or fast action for loop tricks. Basically, you can't stop at just one, you'll need several of each shape and weight. Fortunately, they're for the most part inexpensive, so it's easy to get a good collection going.

When the YoYos were popular back in the 4th grade, I got myself a Duncan Neo. Simple yoyo that got the job done. I will say, though, that I caved and bough a Butterfly. That was a darn cool YoYo.

If you look on that site I posted there's a yoyo called "Cold Fusion" and they say it sleeps for up to 10 minutes. (Which is true, Ive used one before) that's amazing. Too bad its 150 dollars :/

Check http://www.yoyodave.com for better pricing and for some items which are no longer available elsewhere.
The best looping yo-yo, I've found, is the wooden Roadster, followed closely by the wooden axle ProYo2 or ProYo III, which were made by Playmaxx. Do not get the newer ProYos made by Duncan (i.e. - Flambeau). In my opinion, Duncan Toys went way down in quality ever since Flambeau forced the Duncan family's business into bankruptcy in the early 1960s, and took over the business. The best string yo-yos CURRENTLY made, especially for a beginner (Split the Atom is no longer considered an advanced trick), would probably be made by YoYoJam, with the Night Moves (version 1, 2, or 3) being handy for beginners due to its VERY large string gap. You'll want to, eventually, relubricate it with Vaseline Lip Jelly. But if Yoyodave (also reachable at http://www.skilltoys.com, which is the store front) has any in stock, the Bumble Bee GT (or the classy and costly Vid-E-Yo GT) with its butterfly shape would be the way to go. If you want MANY minutes of spin time, the Cold Fusion is hard to beat -- and Skill Toys (yoyodave) has it for only $80.

I would suggest the Duncan Freehand #1 or 2, whatever you can find. There are many reasons to getting this particular yoyo:
1) It's EXCELLENT at looping 2) It's EXCELLENT at string tricks 3) It's VERY durable 4) It's a freehand, and it comes with a counterbalancing die. You should at least try freehand, because it opens your world of trick possiblilities WAY way up. NOTE: You can use this as a regular yoyo, or a freehand, and it's easy to transition back and forth (just remove the die at the end). If you're really really serious, you can buy THE best, which would be a silver bullet, but those are a little more expensive. |

But that was before Flambeau forced the Duncans out of business, and came after Don Jr with lawyers whenever he so much as put his name on a product. That's why he changed his company "Duncraft" to "Playmaxx." Don Jr and his wife Donna are both gone now, and are missed to this day.
