Hello, I was learning a few coin changes, like J.BOBO's change, and another called "Demachinal Change"(you have a coin classic palmed and a coin in the fingertips, you thumb palm that coin and drop the classic palm one). But I can't make my mind up about wich of them is the best, so let me ask you a question.
For you wich is the best coin change for change a coin into another when you simulate drop it in the other hand? Think it over and then tell me your opinion. MAGO68

The one I use depends on where my load is from the previous routine or where I want to go with the following one. If it is in classic palm, I go to the thumb palm. If it is in finger palm, I use the Bobo Switch.
The point is this; the best sleight is the one that takes you where you want to go. |

I tend to like the Bobo switch if I'm dumping a coin from one hand to another (either mine or someone elses); for a one hand switch I'd mostly go for the DeManche change which I learned from the Amateur Magicians Handbook (Henry Hay)sometime last century. I don't think that's quite the same as your Demachinal change. The one I do starts with the switch coin fingerpalmed (rather than classic)and the original coin held between thumb and index tips. You slide the thumb over it, grab it with the base joint of the thumb and roll it into fingerpalm at the same time as you push the palmed coin to the tips. It's a very smooth move. I've never tried it as a hand to hand switch, but now I think of it, it should work fine.
Cheers, Bill

I have experimented with this quite a bit, and I have found that I personally like to use the one handed palm change for a switch,
it is quite convincing, the coin can be held at the fingertip right up until the last minute before the switch, it is an excellent sleight to aquire if you have not done so.. and works very well.. The Demanche change for me was tough because I had a problem with the coins talking. and the Bobo Switch leaves me with a coin in finger palm instead of classic and requires a little more misdirection than the one handed palm change.. Roth has this sleight on his videos, but his version is a little tough, I use the Kapps version I think, I came up with it on my own by accident, and found it easier... I then found someone talking about it here on the cafe and found that it was Kapps that had executed the sleight in the same manner.. PM me if you need some instructions on the difference between the Roth and Kapps version. Good Luck Tom Defrange

I really like coin changes.
Some that I use are: 1. Splitting Silver- Dollar to 2 halfs to 4 quarters 2. Single changes: I use: Roths C Palm to C Palm From display position to downs palm. and my "own" RS Change. See August 2002 issue of the Linking Ring - Havenly Close up for a description of its use. I came up with it on my own. It is a combination of a retrival and a goshman pinch/Tenkai. PM if you want any details. Harris

I forgot to mention on the change using the downs palm, that the coin to be changed in starts in C. Palm and ends in display position.

I prefer the "Demachinal Change" (is this the name?) because i feel more confortable having a coin classic palmed than finger palmed. But the bobo's switch is also great. It really depends of the effect. But both changes are really different, in it's start point (classic, finger) and end (thumb, finger) so do what adapts better to your routine.

Your mirror will tell you which one is right for you.

King Star is right, mirrors will tell you a lot.
I also suggest that you rehearse routines, as well as practice individual sleights, and tricks. Then the "real world" will tell you what "plays" the best. Harris

Very true, some things go into the drawer after the mirror and some thing go there after the odd looks on peoples faces. If you are doing the right misdirections, you will see how folks react. The biggest one,two punch comes from timeline misdirection. The fancy sleights just get things ready.

Star Dog,
IMHO you(and I as well) need to go through our magic toys(er professional props) every once in a while. Sometimes I find my style has changed, or my skills have advanced where I can use a prop or routine that proved impossible or did not fit, in the past. A recent example is my Boston Box, which I have put back in my routines. Harris Harris

That's funny, I just waxed my boston and started using it too. My quarter boxes always get more use than the regulars Half size. The half set is put away now, but I keep a JO-PRO in a small velvet pouch in the bottom of my bag. Just in case.....you know.
