I just purchased a set of basic multiplying wands on the off chance that I might incorporate it into my show. Unfortunately, I am really uncomfortable with the handling and how the wands should be held as each additional one is multiplied. They also seem to make quite a bit of noise as they are multiplying. I could really use some advice on this or even some direction towards a video clip (a picture really is worth a thousand words). Thanks.

Try it with music maybe to hide the noise? Or maybe be loud and voicetrous with comedy or just to say your magic words?
If you have a kid on stage, he can hold them for you. Its kinda commical because the kid has small hands and struggles to hold the wands. You just keep producing more and more... |

Where do you purchase these manipulation wands? sorry no help =[
But I'm agree on the Music. I have music for my backround so it would be a misdirection in some sort of hearing sense. Kevin Vu |

I got mine locally, but you can also find them at hocus pocus or daytona magic. They are quite inexpensive but have the potential of being extremely visual.

Do you mean the mini multiplying wands? If it is, then this website might help you.
http://www.tmyers.com/movie/mindex.html I do have those mini multiplying wands but I don't really like to use it because I can't catch it after it appear (if you know what I'm saying). After watching the video clip, Tmyer gave me some very useful idea to solve the problem. Hope it helps you too, magicman845. |

The multiplying wands were originally concieved of as a kid show trick. They were originated by Bev Bergeron. His idea was that you would hand the wand to a kid assistant. But you would still have a wand in your hand. You took the first wand and put it under his arm, and had him take the second. You still had a wand. This one went under the other arm. So you repeat this until you have a wand under each arm, in each hand and one under his chin. Then you wait for Mom to take his picture, and you grab the wands and ditch all but the last one. It was a rapid-fire gag to replace the breakaway wand with. It was never intended to be used in a manipulative routine.

Thanks Bill!! If I were to use it as part of a kids comedy routine, wouldn't the child immediately know how the trick is done, simply by looking at the wands? I was trying to get away from that potential weakness and that is why I was tending towards a manipulation routine.

After buying the multiplying canes, I bought some multiplying wands. They are black, blue, green and red.
The wands are about 2 feet in length. Are these the ones you are writing about?? They are a bit different than the canes and so far a bit more difficult to use. I am thinking of triming them so I will have access to the one inside. Unfortuneately I do not know how triming them will effect the properties of the material they are made of??(hard plastic???) Let me know if you come up with any thing. Of course when I first got the canes they too were not comfortable to "multiply". Now they get a good reaction in my nearly normal programs. Enjoy the process. Harris

Hey there, I do the wands and get a great responce from it. The kid on stage is usually laughing and having a good time and is looking at my expression not the fact that the wand just slid out. If you have a good presentation and some fun facial expresions you will have fun performing this. Brian

Hi Harris,
Yup, those are very similar to the wands I purchased. The only difference is that each of my wands are black with white tips.

I assume that multiplying wands are the same as the nest of wands.

I think the key to this is not to see it so much as "magical" as to see it as a "surprise" and "comedy." Don't worry about the child figuring it out - if he and the audience is laughing about his "predicament" (as Bill Palmer explains), I believe you've accomplished what I see as the intent behind the effect.
