Wow, those are beautiful!
Great to see the puzzle box still exists, and craftsman are making them available.
...to all the coins I've dropped here

I've been looking for these things everywhere - thank you!
A couple of years ago I was in Tokyo, and getting off a train station in Akihabara, there were a number of street sellers with small stalls. One of these stalls had beautifully-carved Puzzle boxes (for about $20 each!). I bought 3 for my kids, but got completely hooked on them myself! The designs were ingenious and the craft that must have gone into making them was extraordinary. I haven't been able to find any since then, but delighted to discover your link!!

I have been fortunate enough to be given a 27 step wooden carved japanese puzzle box! Am wondering if there is some nice way to use it in an effect. Was thinking along the lines of card to impossible location - any suggestions?

Excuse my ignorance, but what's a puzzle box?

If you've ever seen Hellraiser you'll know what a puzzle box is.
Essentially a box with moveable panels that have to be slid in sequence for the box to open.

I have this one...
http://www.cleverwood.com/4_x_4_box.htm After seeing one my father had from his Japanese business partners, I ordered this one. The directions on how to open the box are on a slip of paper on the inside Beautiful stuff and fun |

I make puzzle boxes too. They're fun to make and fun to watch people try to open.
of course, I don't SELL them anymore as they have been outlawed here and in 46 states because of the insanity they cause.... if you'd like to see some of them in action, go to: http://www.youtube.com/user/mickeysoume I make a new one every week or two, so check back often, as I can't 'announce' them any more as I make them.
