I really loved this tape, very much as I did his close-up video tape. I judge on a 1-10 scale with 10 being perfect. I judge on content, technique, and video & teaching quality.
1. The MockingBird - This is one AWESOME mentalism Card Effect. I've actually started doing this. It's awesome how this priciple works. I'm not exactly sure how it works, but kind of have an idea. This is a little lengthly for the street but I've done it with good results. I rate it a (8). 2. Autome - I really liked this one. ONE IMPORTANT FACTOR THOUGH, is make sure people won't compare notes. You may have to buy a certain paperback, not gimmicked though, or look around for a book for this to work well. I rate it a (8). 3. Divine Write - This is a absolute jewel on this tape. It went over my head, although I somewhat picked up on th writing part. The rest really got me though. This will take work to make. Frankly I don't think I could do it. I hope they market (part of this trick). There is a version of it on the market that really s****. The audience was really floored, plus the spectator he used. I could tell. Another note, make sure the person you use isn't a clumsy or tipsy person, or you'll look bad. I rate this a (9.5). 4. Zenvelopes - This is another one that went over my head. This one really rocks too. You'll need thick envelopes. I wonder though if you could just use the regular yellow pay envelopes, with the flaps cut off, using smaller cards. I'm sure you couls get away with it, especially if they don't know what you're going to do, as they shouldn't anyway. A great ESP matching effect using lots of people. I rate it a (8). 5. Kurotsuke - I caught on to this one, right away, and didn't care much for it. You put four same colored articles in a bag, with a odd colored article. People draw the artcles out without looking at them, and you divine the odd article. It's great if you have one particular ending. The presentation is cool, but the effect wasn't a "fooler" to me. He also didn't use the exact wording as he explained in the explanation part. I watched it a few times. He went on luck I think. I rate it a (6). 6. The Mind's Eye Deck - This is probably the best on the tape, besides Divine Write. This is a GREAT design mind reading/duplication effect. I would personally buy it though, as I'm not that good of a artist with a steady hand. It would be worth every penny though. I would also (for me anyway) use a c*** s****. My memory isn't the best...lol. That could be done very easliy though. GREAT...GREAT...GREAT, is what I say. I rate it a (9.5). This is a very good tape with the exception of Kurotsuke, but like I said that depends on the ending. With his ending it's really good on the tape. There are real winners here. I rate it over all a (9). Ed, (Eddini).

Hi all,
I just received this dvd, and had high expectations. The methods are clean and simple, which I like. But - though I am a newcomer to mentalism, I was able to pick up most of the subterfuges used. And that's fine! because I've been interested in magic for a long while and so I would be expected to know. However, before I practiced these and presented them for future audiences, I was wondering how many of you have used these effects in real shows? And I was wondering if this was kind of 'lower-tier' work of Mr. Maven's, or of it's stuff that he uses/used and 'slew' real audiences with. Thanks, maurice |

I remember reading something a few months ago about Max Maven releasing a new set of dvd's. Does anyone know the status of this?

Mcmc, I have used the Mockingbird and Kurotsuke for real audiences and they're stunners. The effects on these tapes are definitely worth learning. However, Maven says he lost interest in performing them as soon as they became available to the conjuring public.
