Christmas is coming and so is the Christmas shows at my church. We have a big musical thing and I was invited to do magic in it. I want to try to fit it in to the show somehow. Here's how it works- there are 2 parts of the show: the biblical part with Jesus, wisemen, etc, and the part in the present Christmas with a tree, lights, etc.
It is on a big stage so I will need something that everyone will be able to see. I also cannot have any patter, only music. Any ideas? Thanks, Tyler |

No patter, now that makes things a bit more complicated. What tricks do you currently have available and which ones are you thinking about using? Post them here and maybe some of us will have some better ideas for you.

I don't have many things for this type of show. I was thinking D'lites? My friend has some large equiptment so I'll talk to him and see what he has to let me borrow. Any ideas on what I should do? I don't mind a pricey illusion, just under $200 please.

Tyler, I have to caution you that the D'lites will get washed out with the stage lighting (unless of course you can have them really lower the lights). I have seen some well thought out uses of the D'lite get ruined by bright stage lights or daylight.
As far as large illusions go, be sure to practice whatever you purchase or borrow. Communicating a message is difficult without being able to speak. Is is possible to change the look of a prop? For instance, can you write on the props. A word like "sin" or "faith" can imply meaning along with the use of the magic to convey a message. This might not be easy to accomplish but worse things have been overcome. Keep focused, I'm sure that you can overcome this minor obstacle. Good Luck. |

Do a paper cutting trick coupled with "Snowstorm in China." Fold a white paper up and do the old "snowflake" cut. Open the paper up and show the snowflake. Then tear it up and put it in one hand. Pick up a fan and fan your hand.
Voila: thousands of small snowflakes come floating out. Mix it up with white and mylar flakes for a pretty effect. Use the tune "Sleighride" while performing. I've performed this a number of times and it looks great. Of course you can spend a whole lot more if you want the snowstorm effect that Copperfield has performed all over the world. Whichever version you use, just be prepared to clean up after the performance! Terry

I have seen Bruce "Charlie" Johnson perform gospel magic, without words (music only), at the Pacific Northwest FCM convention about 8-10 years ago. He was very powerful.
I can't recall too much of what he did, aside from Timothy's Wenk's Punchline. Perhaps he has a video or some lecture notes you could learn from, as a gospel performance to music is his style. He may have done some talking, but I don't recall it. http://www.charliethejugglingclown.com/ - Donald

I am thinking about the Snowstorm in China. I don't have it yet but the rehersals are coming up next month or late this month. Does it take too long to perfect?
