Does anyone know where I can get a copy of the jastrow illusion (the one with two arcs, one looks bigger but they are the same size) that has fish on them? They sell them as just arcs in several science catalogs. I had one that I copied on blue and red card stock, then taught the magic trick with the story of one fish, two fish, red fish blue fish. Now I can't find my original copies. It is a trick that can be taught to any age child, and makes a great giveaway with your info on the back! When teaching a magic class, sometimes I cut them using paper plates, the corrugated part are the perfect size. Thanks

I know this thread is rather old at this point, but I just have to recommend to everyone "Magictales" by Leslie Melville. It's actually 2 books in 1, with storytelling effects. But my favorite in it uses the Jastrow illusion.
In performing Melville's "Mr. Tall and Mr. Small", I've had adults actually "see" Mr. Small stretch into a larger size. This is the most entertaining use of the Jastrow illusion, especially when one compares it to the rainbow cards. Melville even gives you templates to print off and make your own props for this. Ready-to-go! For a real easy give-away of these, buy a stack of craft foam at the dollar store, cut them in the right shape and glue some craft "google" eyes on them. We just made up 22 sets of these for less than $2.

Neat you can make things also Trekdad,I made my boomerangs from a old snow thrower augar then painted them up nice,Now looking for storys to use with them besides my own.
So its called the Jastrow illusion interesting .Maybe he discovered it a simular way I discovered the effect. In 1990 while working with some arc shaped brake pads from a riding mower. I noticed when the new set sat with one above the other the upper one looked shorter, and thought they were defective.since the holders on the transmission were the same size. I didn't pursue demostrating the effect to the public just showed it to my shop manager & boss. this summer I did see the boomerangs in a fantasma magic set I purchaced, and that's when I discovered this has been used as a magic effect. I was talking to a freind on here about ideas parralleing in minds of creators, this has been true in several ideas I had in the past.Who ever gets them to the public first gets creit for the effect, idea, story,or invention. A case in point;in 1980 I built a string trimmer that had wheels on it, then 10 years later a company built & sold a simular machine.
theres a lot to learn out there, many interesting subjects, and hobbies to enjoy

Zarfs, the cardboard things that help your hand from being burnt from a coffee cup can be taken apart and used for the same purpose. Try it I think you will like it.

I now have kids make these for my science camps by cutting the edge off of paper plates. Cut the corrugated part to the right length and decorate.
