I'm afraid I have a confession to make.
Okay, I just read the "grammar" posting so I'll improve on my capitalization first off But second - I'm not really much of a practicing magician these days, I was a big magic fan/practicer a year ago - I was always able to pull a crowd on the street, and it was fun doing it. Maybe it was the ego "power trick". Anyways, lately I read more, think more and that's it really. I joined The Magic Cafe so I could plug my new magic site (yes, that's right, MAGIC, even though I just said I kinda petered out...). But no-one took any notice - which is totally understandable. So anyway. Voila, ma vie, ma coeur, mais pas ma site web I'd be interested to approach some of the more abstract/philosophical discussions in magic - but nothing to do with current affairs/technique. amadeus |

Welcome Friend Amadeus!
I think you find more than a little abstract/philosophical, even estoric discussions in a few forums around here. Drawing an edge on the street really is pretty heady stuff, isnt it? Sometimes I think it is almost too much power for mortal men, but as long as we us it for good, I guess it is OK. And there is certainly nothing wrong with reading more, and thinking more. Most people who do dumb things start their explanation with "I didn't think....." and they may as well have just stopped there. They dont think much at all! Reading and thinking more is a pretty good thing. Nice to havve a thinker join us here. I look forward to yur postings! BroDavid

Welcome, Amadeus! Forget shame, it's overrated. We need more thinkers in Magic. In our modern age of communication, it is even more of a temptation for many to merely copy the performances and patter of professional performers. In earlier times, they just repeated the patter in the instruction sheets or the catalog descriptions!

Wow! What a response! Thank you all very much.
And yes - I get the hint to "posting or not" I have to think first, like I said, been a while since I've been thinking about magic - but I have quite a few pennies... Tx. |

Hullo,
Welcome....I'm brand new to TMC myself, but I was drawn in by your philosophy tag.... I enjoy thinking. So.... Here's something to think about....you are familiar with Zeno's theorem? Yes. How about Schreodinger's Cat? Yeah? Then consider. If you place the cat in the box, then according to Zeno, every step the cat takes is only half the journey into the box. (Etc. etc. etc.) Since the cat never arrives, then we can conclude that the cat is never there! To finish, if the cat is never there then we have to conclude that when we close the door to the box, the cat ceases to exist! End of contemplation. That is my solution to Schreodinger's conundrum. Peace!

Xeno's paradox is based on analysing movement discontinously (he takes one step, turtle then moves 1/10th ahead of his step). The fact, one should argue that movement is continuous (they move at the same time). This is why I can walk faster than a turtle if you think - while mr. turtle (or tortoise, as you please) is taking that 1/10th of a step, I've taken my step, which overtakes it. This kinda sounds kookie, but if you think, it does make sense, I just can't quite explain it.
So, history is the alike, only through analysing history as a continous phenomenom (sp) can we get any closer to understanding it. Well, you can tell what I've just been reading |

Welcome Amadeus,
I like your website and remember there's nothing wrong with just reading about magic. Many of the folks here at the cafe have never performed in public like you but they express their love of the craft through the medium of print, so don't feel ashamed. Enjoy it all. Regards, Eric
