Well it is all a moot point now because the sale is over and this time they are really gone. The only reason that I had the sale in the first place was that I got a lot of e-mail from people that wanted to buy them... After I closed it down a week ago!
Now the sale is over and the DVD project is now closed down... And I have no guilt what so ever because I gave people the opportunity to buy at a close out sale price... I would suggest that the people that are giving the bad reviews or their oppinions right now and will most likely continue for the next two weeks at least--- The last group went out this mourning and I am DONE! If they really don't like it or think that it is not worth the 5 dollar sale price... To wait one or two months and sell them on e-bay... Because they have now gone underground... And their are a lot of professionals that liked them! But that would be name dropping to list them here! Best ahead....

Hi Glenn,
I think the best way forward here is to turn a blind eye to such negative comment. As you know there are a sufficient number of us who value your work highly and I for one have successfully integrated your routines into my card magic. For me, the fact that others have a different point of view underlines yet again the wisdom of that old saying, 'One mans meat is another mans poison.' Best Regards, Paul H |

Thanks Paul H...
In the long run none of this matters. I am glad I do not have to burn DVDs anymore. I did this project it went way beyond I thought it would now it is shut down and I am onto other things that will make more money. Like booking my next tour... They can say what they want. They have a right to their oppinion. I don't really care. All I can say is thanks for buying my DVD... If you liked it thanks and if you didn't like it thanks too... The Café is filled with three kinds of magicians... Lookers, buyers and sellers... Since I am not any of the above. I suggest that if my friends want to contact me. Send me an e-mail from my web site below... Best ahead...

The second show of the selection (variation of the paimtbrush change?) is highly unimpressive, to say the least. I can't really see the magic in the Poker Deal as you propose to stack a deck and do it so openly (unless that shuffle is supposed to be deceptive). The Glenn Bishop Cuts the Aces is very repetitive. Basically you spread a deck to show that "of course" you use a regular shuffled deck, do a push through that is painful to watch and "of course" you cut to an ace. Then you spread it again (what for?) and do the same. This is repeated a third and fourth time. Very boring and unmotivated. Also, the one handed bottom deal on the final ace is very out of place. A regular two-handed bottom deal would have been much better suited (better yet, the bottom turnover taught on Paul Wilson's Knock 'em Dead). In the Aces & Queens Transpo the Elmsley Count is so bad it should be illegal. The routine on the whole lacks in smoothness (when the switch happens) and is nothing to get excited about. Flash Cut the Aces is a good cutting the aces routine and in the hands of a competent cardman would probably look excellent. Henry Christ's... would also look great without the awkward cutting sequence in th begining. The end is good. Card Shark Outsharked is an excellent trick but the controls and double lifts are just painful to watch. Rub-A-Dub-Dub is good but I can't believe a magician would be fooled by it. I wasn't. In all, the first four tricks are "of course" rubbish and the latter four are good tricks that should "of course" be performed by a competent magician to fully appreciate them. |

I no longer really see the need to further analyze this, as meilechl pretty much read my mind.
And while we're on the record, the cull to the bottom (the convincing control) was anything but convincing. My god, you honestly have no idea how many times I shuddered watching it. If I didn't think someone would scream copyright (copyfright?) infringement, I would post a small clip to justify my opinion. This isn't a personal attack on Bishop, I don't even know the guy. It's simply an honest review. However, I will give Mr. Bishop a tip for his personal life: If you do not want negative criticism, do not release things to the public. |

As Glenn has taken his dvds off the market now my comments may be irrelevant but I wanted to make them anyway. I have both dvds and I thought that both are wonderful teaching tools for some of the classics of magic. Glenn is an excellent teacher and all the routines are items that any close-up performer would be pleased to perform. Whilst I can accept that some may not like Glenn's style (he produced these dvds primarily to teach, after all) any competent magician can take Glenn's routines and add his own personality. Sometimes a personality can make it difficult to see through a routine and make it one's own. I loved Bill Malone's dvds, for instance, but there is a tendancy to try and perform just like Bill because of the audience reaction he gets.
I am sorry that Glenn had to put up with what seemed to me, uncessarily unpleasant comments, but I am very pleased that I bought the dvds (and the Shell Book) whilst they were still available. Thanks Glenn. Martin |

Personally I'd pleased to see honest feedback. There is way too much OTT only-positive reviewing in the magic community, especially this site where any old product often gets rave reviews.
Honesty is only "unpleasant" if it happens to be negative. But it's still honest. We need objective reviews otherwise reviews are utterly worthless. |

Hi Neil,
I do agree with you about the need for objectivity. I would also add balance and even handedness into the mix. Thing become 'unpleasant' when the 'reviews' are unbalanced and course. It is actually very easy to be critical. Its much more difficult to be contructively critical and rounded in appraisal. Regards, Paul H |

I have watch this DVD, and here is my review.
On the upside, Mr Bishop does a very good job at teaching the material, and this is the most important part of the DVD. Because you can always modify the material to suit your own personal needs. These are good DVDs (considering the asking price is 5$ each) which might explain in part the below average production quality. But in all honesty it is still pretty good compared to some videos that were produced by big-name companies... "these are obviously not made for profit motives. Even at his "list" price, he couldn't have been making a penny; at his current sale price, he must be losing money" But the most important point I want to make is that I (PERSONALY) find that the construction of some (NOT ALL) of the routines need more work/thinking. *** BE WARNED *** My comments are personal, and take them for what they are worth, as we all have different way of thinking and perceiving things... For example: THE AMBITIOUS CARD ------------------ First, there is no explanation or motivation as to why to card goes to the bottom of the deck (when it's supposed to go on top!) and why it ends up the cardbox. Bill Palmer wrote: "There is a surprise transposition at the end." Well, of course it is a surprise, it is not motivated at all! In truth, the routine looks more like a con game like the 3 shell game in which you have to guess where the card will end up!!! To change an indifferent card to the selection he cuts the deck twice!!! Why not do a do an Erdnase change, side-steal/slip change, etc... (I personally believe that there should be no, or as less as possible, cutting and shuffling during an Ambitious Card routine) IMPORTANT: *** But here I must say that the fact that the camera is entirely focusing *** on the deck and Mr Bishop's hands does not help at all, because in real *** life we would be watching "all of him" not just the deck, and not from *** that close. We can hardly be misdirected. So when people complain about *** break-size and push-through transfers... well, let's be realistic! THE G.E.M. POKER DEAL --------------------- Well the fact that the other players can upgrade their hands adds nothing to the effect (for me and my friend who watched it) since he openly stated at the beginning that he would stack the 4 Aces! True that it proves that you can do it and "lure" the other players into betting, but it changes nothing to the outcome/denouement. But it is indeed also true that "The entire idea behind which cards the other players would keep is confusing" and not obvious... real poker players would have sometimes kept other cards (for example, the first hand any decent player would have kept the 3 spades and hope for a flush draw instead of keeping a "The 2 highest cards" a 7 and a 9 of different suits!!!) THE GLENN BISHOP CUTS TO THE ACES --------------------------------- I also agree with what Meilechl said about this routine a few posts before. The fact that the deck is spread face-up cancels some of the effect as he can see where the aces are!!!! Please, Keep in mind that Mr Bishop is not performing for an audience on this DVD, he's performing for the camera, because interaction with their audiences/spectators is usually the strong side of most professional magicians, and what sets them apart from others (and especially amateurs!). Conclusion; considering the asking price (5$), I would recommend the DVD. I personaly prefered the "Tricks for Table-Side Tricksters" DVD. The 3 Shell Game routine is good! Hi Ronnie,
Thanks for such a sane and thoughtful review. With regard to the spreading of the cards, it is fun to work out good motivational reasons for doing this. I have developed a story to go alongside a mix of this spreading snd a culling method derived from Watler Gibson. Using these techniques along with the Stevens control, I can confidently dead cut to the aces. It really is a strong effect and the whole routine that is firmly rooting in the structure of Glenns aces cutting. Its a shame the DVD's are no longer available. Merry Christmas. Regards, Paul H |

Hello Mr. CLown, if you buy a dvd and judge it by how the performer does the tricks or how the camera didn't lie and you caught a glimpse of his seights, then you really should stick to being a Clown... Remember Son, just because the performer on the dvd flashes on his sleights, doesn't mean you have to either...

Then why not lay this thread to rest?
Your choices in life can be compared to watching a magic trick: You can continue to believe the illusion in front of you, find the intrigue and desire to learn more, or quit paying attention the moment you feel deceived.

Thanks for posting Ibd1Mon99 there was a lot of odd theings and good things said in other threads... The story is that some people say that I took the DVD's off the market because of "bad reviews"...
The "bad reviews" were about a total of four or five out of several hundred sales and give aways. The reason I took them off the market was because I am to lazy to pack them up and send them out. That is also takes up time and I need the time to sell my show... I never produced them to release them to the magic market at large. Just a short time becaue I had a problem with some magicians stealing my stuff and I wanted to get my name on it and take the credit. After I felt that I did that goal I took the DVD's off the market... But I also feel that people in the blogs and others on the internet have posted in a childish way about my web site and about me. And about others that I do not want to get into. So I wrote a few threads about posting in a more adult way. And saying the theory that if someone gives a review that they can still not like something and say that without insulting the person that produced the product. My reasons of why are in other threads... It has nothing to do with ME being reviewed for my DVD project that I pulled months ago. I pulled my DVD project because I am lazy and I was finished with it. I much rather copy my promo DVD's and my hypnosis show DVD's and make a lot more money that way...
