My specialty is cards and close-up gimmicks. I am only fourteen. if I aproach someone older than twelve or thirteen, they think it is some stupid kid playing with a dumb trick. Usually I say "Can I entertain you for a second?". I might get their attention with a quick card spring but that rarely works. Does anybody have any suggestions for a method that really grabs their attention? I mean other than picking drunks.

Say these in a polite way..
"Hello, I just learned something new. Do you mind if I show it to you?" or "Good day sir/mam. I am doing random acts of magic. Can I show you one?" :bikes: |

You could always let them come to you. Stand there and do some cool flourishes. Someone is bound to ask if you do magic. Then floor them with something quick and visual.

"Mind if I show you something cool?" , "I have not tried this before, don't know if it works" and "this is rather strange..mind if I show it to you?" .These lines always work for me.
Don't think too much.

Excellent, thanks for the advice. These seem to work. usually they look at me like I am stupid but they actually stop and watch.

I would recommend making something float! (using IT)Like a paper ball or something else that's small and could be found anywhere. Then approach them while the paper ball is floating between your hands!
That'll definatly get their attention and they will no longer think of you as some dumb kid! I sometimes place something on the floor and pretend like I've dropped it only to reach out and have it come up to me instead! This always turns people heads and gives you the window you need to approach them. Kevin Courtney :kewl: |

Just say, "Hey, this is weird. Check this out". Then floor them.
