This weekend I performed at a Library - started the show and of course the children were doing the normal joining in kid thing - laughing, shouting and clapping. 5 minutes into the act a guy came to the "stage" area and said with some anger "your a bloody nuisance" and left. The audience were somewhat shocked and waited for my response, being: "a little tip ladies and gentlemen, never bring your dad to one of your shows" and continued with the show. I know it wasn't a great line but was wondering what would you have said after an interuption like this. The audience was about 20 kids with 15 adults.

..."Thank you, Vicar for those kind remarks".
Don't be alarmed folks, he is only out for the afternoon... Don't know what to say, was the crowd just noisy or was he just being difficult? |

And if I may add this, Tricky I've been doing programs for over 25 years at one time I was a pitchman doing about 2000 pitches a year in front of at least 25 people each time. Do the math, if 1 out of every 10,000 people is crazy that means I would run into a "nut" at least 5 times a year. Here is what I've learned. Some people were having a bad day long before they met me. It had NOTHING to do with me. It's them. The best I can do is say a little pray for them and me. Bless your heart, Tricky. Welcome to the club called experience.

That is hilarious. I was laughing at my computer...I can't believe a random guy came up to you and called you a bloody nuisance.

A suggestion from a friend: "that was my agent - he likes to keep me on my toes"

Maybe he had been up all night caring for his terminally-ill wife.
Maybe his back ached. Maybe he came to the library for a refuge of quiet. A funny comeback line is great for the show, but, at the same time, I think it's important to not let an edge of cruelty eclipse our willingness to give someone the benefit of the doubt. Av (Curmudgeon-In-Training) |

As a fellow Englishman I would suggest,
DAD!!! Wrong Cue, you ment to do that in 10 minutes! He is also available for kids parties Big clap for my Welsh Friend, Daffiddglliffggloff. I love the Welsh, they are so funny! It must be so frustrating for you sir! coming out for a nice day, from your care home, when suddenly somebody starts building a party and a magic show around you. I would suggest, Gazzo's read between the lines for some fantastic heckler lines. Make sure you use ones suitable for children around! Matt |

Say, Anyone else?
I think you did the right thing. Say a little something and back to the show. I did a show a few years ago at a country club. I got the show going and the kids were into it when someone came up and said, "Now the winners of the costume contest". I smiled, waited for him to finsh and back to show. Things happen. You go with the flow in this business. |

You could have used this to your advantage by saying,,,"Musta had overdue Library books. Kids always return y'er books ontime", then proceed with the show.
