I also use an "instand" I got mine from Denny & Lee Magic. Again it is not cheap. The regular one is not big enough for cup & Balls but if you go to their website they do have a larger top available. I think Denny can get them too. Or you could make a top large enough and attach it to the normal top.
I highly recommend it. |

Heck, I use a snare drum base and a silverware box that has a lid that opens and a single drawer. Sturdy stand (stainless steel and designed to literally take a beating) and the box is mahogany, so it looks rich. Slap a close up pad on top and you're off to the races!

I have made dozens of tables that have cost me anywhere from $20 to $400. One of the simplest to make is made from PVC pipe and pieces of lumber from a lumber yard.
Get a section of three inch PVC pipe about 4 feet long, and two fittings that will adapt it to pipe flanges. Get two pipe flanges. Most of your home improvement stores sell pieces of 3/4 inch ply wood cut in a circle about 18 inches in diameter. Get one of those, attach one of the pipe flanges to it with big wood screws and paint it any color you like. Now, make a table top. this can be anything you like, up to about 18 inches by 24 inches. If you want a servante, you can make the thing like a flat box, open on one side. Put a little ledge inside the back of the box so things don't roll out of it. Paint the box to match the base, attach a flange to it, too. Cover the top with whatever you want to work on. Now set the thing up with the flange adapters and figure out how long you need the pipe for the central leg to be. Cut it to length and friction fit it to the adapters. Ifyou find that it wobbles, put three furniture glide feet on the bottom. These can be light and easy to pack. Also you can make the center post in two sections that fit together with another adapter, so the whole thing will fit inside the tabletop.

Tables Tables Tables...I too have the ubiquitous waiter stand (self made...) and large table top (ala Gazzo) and needed a collapsable one for travelling on my scooter with. Have made a full sized normal type table (as above) and it all comes apart and is more than sturdy enough. Just imagine Gazzos table folded in half...
Could make them up and sell...but no price as yet... anyone... |

Not exactly collapsable, I took a standard bar stool and removed the cousion padding then used a staple gun to reattach the leather. I can place my briefcase on top, and it is very stable. I can carry the briefcase in one hand, and the bar stool in the other - one day, I'd like to find a lighter barstool (mine is all wood and somewhat heavy if you hafta walk a long parking lot).
It alos allows for me to take the briefcase down, and sit down and talk with the audience. I do a rip-n-restored card effect in this position. I had experimented with standing on the bar stool to get some extra height but ruled it out as too dangerous.

JoeJoe,
Your bar stool got me thinking... Maybe you could attach casters (fixed direction, not rotating) to the sides of two adjacent legs, so that they do not contact the ground when the stool is upright, but will when the stool is tilted. The case could be bungeed to the opposite side, perhaps with the addition of small cleats on the legs to form a mini lip for the case to lock against. Add a handle of some kind attached at the seat end; there when you need it, and detachable or retractable when you don't. Then you have a rolling cart (probably could be push or pull), and that would significantly alter the physics when dealing with that amount of weight across those long parking lots. Set up on stage, the casters would go toward the back and only to the closest observer would it appear to be more than it is now. Just don't stand on it. LOL!

JoeJoe,
There are some pretty nice, study folding stools on the market that might work for you. Try Kmart or the evil W place. Thanks for your idea by the way. The city I live in has a weird relationship with buskers. We're allowed to busk all we want but we need to pay for a table permit if we need a table. I'm thinking your idea might get around the rules. I'll try it out this spring. Thanks again, Mark

Hmmm. Interesting rules re: tables. Why not get some rope and put one around your neck like a vender at a ball game or an old time cigarette girl. Maybe that would bend the rules enough to save the premit fee!!

I thought of that, then I thought of the barrells of pain killers I'd need for my back after a day of that.

Funny you should mention barrell!! I use a barrell for a close up table in my studio. You're right about that too, I bet after a day your back would be screaming for sure. Maybe add one leg??

Now there's something I hadn't thought of. I'll have to see what I can come up with.
