Has anyone read THE OSTRICH FACTOR
A Practice Guide for Magicians by Gerald Edmundson (apart from your good self Gerald !) I looked at his web site and am interested in the book. Gerald sent me a very nice reply on the postage cost to the uk. Can anyone give me a short review on it.

I bought this book because I wanted to know how to practice more effectively. What I got was so much more.
Gerald Edmundson not only shows how to practice, but how to perform. Of course, you have to practice what you'll perform, and this book shows how to do it. It teaches how to create, practice, and perform every aspect of a routine. The first chapter has great ideas on forming the mental images necessary. The storyboard idea is great, and I find it very helpful. I also found the section on learning the sleights to be right on the money (I'm into coin magic)and I started using the advice from the book immediately to help me through a sleight I was having difficulty with. This book was an excellent investment, and one I'll use every time I begin work on a new effect. Thanks Gerald for getting this out to us. Gene Plampin |

I am in the middle of reading the book right now. I can tell you this. Gerald's insight into how to learn a trick or a routine is truly wonderful. I've seen Gerald work, so I know the results of applyling this system.
I used something similar when I finally figured out that producing consistent magic required a consistent system. I wish I'd had this book when I first started. I recommend it very highly.

I bought the book.
I'd like to say that Gerald is a great guy! I e-mailed to confirm postage cost to UK and received a reply almost by return, I placed an order through his website (www.geraldedmundson.com) and paid by paypal, I received a personal thank you e-mail, not an automated one, a personal one which picked up on the comments I'd made and said the item was in the mail already, I received the book from the USA to the UK in 2DAYS!!!! I arrived home from work at about 7:30pm and the post was there, I opened it, started reading, couldn't put it down, finally finished at 11:30pm. Anyone who is serious about improving their practice, rehersal and ultimately their performance should read and apply this stuff. GREAT BOOK - GREAT PRICE - BUY IT TODAY!

Bill, I wish I’d had The Ostrich Factor when I started also! We all learn some lessons the hard way. I still do!
When I prepare a new trick for performance or rethink one in my working repertoire, I know I must follow a systematic approach of practice and rehearsal. If I don’t, I know I’m not working at my full potential. The result will not be the quality of work that I seek. I appreciate everyone’s interest in and comments about The Ostrich Factor. I wish you all the best with your quest for excellence with your performances. Gerald |

Just a note to let those who are interested know that H&R Books is sold out of The Ostrich Factor, but it is being reprinted. H&R will have the book back in stock in the next week or so. Other than getting the book from me directly, H&R is the only seller that has them. I still have five or six copies left.
Again, I appreciate your patronage and your interest in The Ostrich Factor. Feel free to PM me if you have questions. Thanks again! Gerald P.S. Thanks for your enthusiasm about The Ostrich Factor, Big Al Jnr! |

I have received e-mails asking about the material covered my column “The Ostrich Factor” in M-U-M magazine. The articles in the magazine column are different from the information in the book. Although some of the subject matter is similar, the articles are not rewrites from the book.
I appreciate the continued interest in “The Ostrich Factor” and wish everyone well with their practice and rehearsal. Regards, Gerald |

Wow..That's great Gerald! Thanks for offering that sound clip.
I live just a mile or so from the final burial place of Harry Houdini (Machpelah Cemetery). It's a bit chilling to hear the voice of "the man" himself. BTW...thanks for “The Ostrich Factor”. Starting to read through it now . Highly recommended! Bosco |
