I've been doing live sound professionally part time since I was 16, full time for the last two years touring as the microphone technician and/or engineer for two national tours, and I have no idea what a "butterfly microphone" is.

Butterfly is the type of clip that holds a microphone. It is a spring "clip" rather than the traditional flex tube.
I have heard bands call the combo a butterfly mic (in slang) meaning a wired mic that can be grabbed in a hurry,
