I have had a couple of requests related to spread control literature, so I am posting this for anyone else's potential interest:
The dynamics of the spread control force are grounded on understanding spread cull controls. You could start by reading some of Roberto Giobbi's Card College series. Card College One has a quick overview of the spread cull, and the spread cull 'under the spread' force (pp 187-190). Roberto goes into additional detail on the 'Convincing Control' in Card College Three (pp 551-554), and in the same volume he details a spread cull steal into a palm on pages 771-772. That was the 'quick and dirty' overview. I would now like to provide you with a more exhastive list of some of the most influential works on this subject: Ed Marlo's "Convincing Control" in Heirophant #3 (pp. 133-135) is the most widely referenced starting point in the common era for spread controls. While Marlo's article gets the ball rolling, and it also references his related 'Prayer Cull' (MINT pp. 232 - 237), it is sadly lacking with relation to credits. Richard Kaufmann's summary of the paternity of this sleight plus details on Larry Jennings' contributions to this sleight are wonderfully detailed in "Jennings 67" (pp. 44-50). The 'ne plus ultra' work on the spread cull control is described in Frank Simon's "Versatile Card Magic" from Mike Caveney's Magic. Mr. Simon's work is also (briefly) described in Earl Nelson's Variations (pp. 33-38). Further advanced work can be found from Allan Ackerman, who has also created a number of spread cull techniques that are recommended by Jamy Ian Swiss, and Mike Close has justly received a lot of accolades for his MC Spread Double lift (Workers pp. 50-55). I would be remiss if I did not mention some of the videos and DVDs that I have found helpful. Since Frank Simon's "Versatile Card Magic" is one of the key references, I would highly recommend getting the companion DVD by Earl Nelson. Be advised however that this is a relatively short "move" DVD - you won't get two hours of magic on it, but you will see multiple views of the moves, and how they are done. Allan Ackerman's "Advanced Card Control Video Series - Controls" also has a lot of great work. I also found Mike Close's Worker series to be helpful, both in explanations of the techniques, plus tricks that use the moves. Likewise for Darwin Ortiz's "Cardshark" which was one of the books that really made me want to perfect spread culls, forces, and controls (check out "The Marker" has a great description of the spread force (pp. 76-85), and "Harry in Your Pocket" (pp. 113-115). for some great work). Both of these men have put out some terrific DVDs and videos that explain the moves, and I would recommend them without any reservations.

I use the Criss Cross force when I'm bored performing. But when I'm hyped up, I use the Hindu Shuffle Force, Riffle Force, Dribble Force, Tenkai Stop Dealing Force, ITHD Force, Slip Cut, Riffle Slip and any force I know, I adapt to the situation to make the most out of it.

Vinny! really liked the giggle force - bold but very fluid and disarming in your hands (as well as your other moves on your demo). Many thanks - I will work on this.

(grin) Seriously, Paul's tape on the Classic Force is a "must have" for anyone who sincerely wishes to learn the mechanics and the nuances of the Classic Force. And while the Classic Force might be "best", the Giggle Force is a great alternative and is there for those of us not yet comfortable with our success rate on the Classic Force. The Giggle force was appropriately named because once you know how it is done, you sit there and giggle as you realize that you are actually getting away with this blatant move. Thanks for demonstrating it for me. Mike P.S. Is the Giggle Force taught on your new DVD?

Is nobody doing the "dribble force"? I think it is a force with a very open handling.

I (in my inadequacy) can never get the dribble to look fair. Perhaps I should work on it....

I checked out Vinny's "Giggle Force" and was pleasantly surprised ... doing the move provides me with a guilty pleasure, since both of Vinny's force and control are a wonderful swindle. Call Vinny to check it out ... I think that you will be wonderfully surprised.

I would also have to recommend the giggle force. I was sent a vid of the force and laughed myself silly at the simplicity but sheer effectiveness of the force.
Fantastic, it really is!

My favorite force currently is topper. Does anyone else use it? I also use a slip cut force and a standard Riffle force. But most forces will do, I just choose one I think will work for the trick.

Jep people,
I have to agree I tried the giggle force today for real after a nice bit of practice and I have to admit though it looks to bold to work after you know how it is done, If you don't know it your not going to find out!!!! Thanks vinny it really is excellent! |

Wow I just recived the giggle force. It is amazing. It is certainly a bold move, but it kills. It is one of the best forces I have come across in a while besides topper.
